I am relatively new to SurvCE... I was TDS through and through but now that it has a Trimble label it is no longer the software for me.
TDS could initiate static data collection on the base while running RTK, can SurvCE do this? If so how? I have not seen the setting. I am using v2.58 complete
After you finish your RTK base setup go to survey tab, log raw GPS. I usually just begin the logging manual on my HIPERs though.

Exactly what Matt said...don't forget to store your base too (some other software does this automatically).
Very easy...we do it all the time.
Ditto on the store base. I usually do that just after completing a localization if I am doing one...

Thanks guys! Yeah... That storing the base got me the first time I took SurvCE out... It required a call to tech support. I was like I just set my base and there are no points in the file, the base is not on the map??? what gives??? They said the software won't store the base until you get a fix at the rover. It was unbelievable. I thought it was/is a flaw, I mean it should store the base point every time without being told... Who doesn't want the base point in the file???
Hi Pin Cushion
I don't have my DC here right now but I think even if you haven't stored the base position as a point you can still find it in the raw data which you can view via File/Raw Data using the 'Edit/Export RW5 File' tab.
This is one of the few issues I have with Carlson data collection. Seriously, why on earth wouldn't I want to store my base position? Carlson can do most of the things TDS can, but most require a few extra steps. I will be running my Survey Pro Ranger until it falls apart before I move to Carlson.
The functionality of SurvCE faaaaar exceeds that of TDS. The map DXF + the auto line work pays for itself.
They could stand to add the CAR (calculate angle right) from SMi to SurvCE, or make their own version but us meet and bounds guys could benefit from the CAR addition for sure. I have not figured out how to calculate angle rights on SurvCE. Anyone know how?
I have a carlson explorer with SurvCE and a Nomad with TDS (or now Survey Pro by Spectra Precision). They both have there pros and cons, I like SurvCE a little bit better. I use my Carlson day to day with stake out work or boundary work. I use my Nomad when using GPS cause my Carlson will not work with my GPS unit and the Nomad was free when we purchased the GPS unit. The field to finish with the SurvCE is confuseing to me, I have no idea how it works or how to use it (no one in the whole company I work for either).
Pin Cushion,
I am not sure if I am understanding your right angle question correctly with SurvCE but if you go to the COGO tab->Manual Traverse->pick the point you want to occupy and backsight, then click the first drop down tab to AR (angle right), punch in your angle and distance, click calculate, the store and a point is created. Not sure if this is answering your question correctly.
When you say calculate angle rights what do you mean exactly? I'm able to do almost everything I could do in SMI in SurvCE. It might not be quite as efficient, but I can do it.
CAR (calculate Angel Right)... in SMi
I was never a fan of SMi but it had one VERY useful feature... in SMi you are able to enter two bearings and it will calculate the angle right and left.... useful, needed.
TDS SurveyPro calls it corner angle and requires points, but SMI you need no points
CAR (calculate Angel Right)... in SMi
I have not used the soft for a bit and for something like that I would just use a calculator.
There are a couple of functions with Carlson SurveCE that are kind of hidden though. In the manual check out the appendix where it addresses what they call "performing mathematical functions" or something like that.
One of the tricks you can get out of that is to enter AZ by Pt.# separated by ,.
IE. 1001,1002 will equal the bearing between the two and then you can add a angle to that, I do not know that it will display the resultant angle but you can still do to computation.
This is very handy for calc's and for setting out points. In the stake out routine by points there is that box you can check and then you can stake from the point and or add and subtract angles from it.
Also explore the options in point in direction and station store.
Without having the gear in front of me I can not quite make this clear but if you are not aware of this functionality you should check it out.
Funny how the most useful stuff in software sometimes gets obscured, especially with all the freaking menu's you gotta wade through now that everything is windows based.
One reason it does not store a coordinate for the base position, is because if you do a "read gps" base setup the point would not be useful until you localize. So the procedure is localize and then go to monitor gps and store it.
