In the last twenty years I've generally avoided these one day seminars. Every time I go ahead and sign up for one it seems I'm always disappointed. However, this sounds like fun and I've enjoyed reading what little of Jeff's fodder I have found. Maybe this time will be different.

The Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors is proud to present Jeff Lucas, PLS, Attorney at Law and the 2015 Mock Trial. Friday July 17, 2015 9:00am-4:00pm

Seminar will be held at OSU-OKC, 900 North Portland, Room 100, (LRC) Library Building Oklahoma City, OK

This seminar will explore the world of civil litigation and the land surveyor’s role as an expert witness. Trial and testimony basics will be discussed in the morning, followed immediately by the mock trial.

This seminar requires audience participation. Volunteers will be asked to play the roles of attorneys, landowners, lay witnesses and expert land surveyor witnesses; the seminar leader plays the judge. The remainder of the audience will be divided into jury pools, each with a foreman spokesperson. The size and number of juries will be determined by the size of the remaining audience.

The trial is loosely based on a combination of several real court cases. The trial will be held and the juries will deliberate. Following deliberation, each jury will then render their verdict, and discuss their reasoning. Each jury will have to field questions from the trial participants and other juries, and defend their verdict.

This seminar is designed to demystify the litigation process and explain the rules of engagement that will be used in court.

I want to say "Adverse Possession" trumps all forms of title. That's how the settlers got it from the American Indians. That's what we were doing with the Redcoats. Defending our adverse possession title. Judge, your honor, your own land, if you own any, has AP in it's history.

Wow Nate

You seem to be channeling the late Richard Schaut. Now if you start talking about reforming deeds to match that AP..... 😉

Wow Nate

It has it's place. I'd just like to take the AP side, in that courtroom, and run it into the ground. It'd make me feel good!

🙂

Count me out,
The way Lucas publicly harpooned Steve Hughey and the late Steven Gardner are but 2 examples of his yellow journalistic style. And in those 2 instances, at the expense of 2 surveyors and gentlemen of whom I have the highest regard and of whom I have been enriched just by knowing them.
Not only is Lucas' use of vinegar in the stew he cooks something a grain of salt often won't help, I'm also suspicious of some of its artificial flavoring.
