I guess this is a land surveying topic since it can have an effect on surveying.
And it is strictly my own opinion/hunch.
When is somebody going to take out Carlson? They are too good, and we are too lucky to have had them this long.
Why are you worrying? That's gonna help?
That is FUNNY, and so true! 🙂
What a stupid thread I started..... :'(
I guess it all stems for me using Carlson so much and with so much appreciation for what they have produced that I fear its loss. Other than that, this thread is worthless, agree with you.
I bet Auto Desk has been looking for a way. Probably by sharing and then the hidden clause will give them control. Look what they did to Generic Cad years ago, bought, supported for about a year then the end of Generic Cad, only those who already owned ,it continued to use it without support until General Cad came along. I have not wanted to or have purchased Auto Cad products since.
jud
I always preferred to turn sets as apposed to rounds.
Carlson has made AutoCAD a lot simpler IMO. Could not imagine having to go back to LD.
Probably will not happen, but the logical one to do it in this case would be Trimble.

I disagree. Trimble is big time; but, the survey side of things means little or nothing to them. The same it true of the other big equipment folks.
The two biggest companies that have a real interest are in a tooth and nail fight for the future.
One is AutoDesk. They would like nothing more than to buy out Bruce and run the company into the ground. Like so many companies these days they are more worried about making this quarters numbers than they are long term business. This is why I see a future decline in their importance. See how Microsoft is in a steady decline? Look for the same from AutoDesk.
The other is ESRI. They have a huge advantage over AutoDesk because they are owned by one guy. This allows them to focus on longer term issues. They can do things that look bad on the balance sheet for the short term that build assets for the long term.
Carlson and ESRI have been working together for the past several years. I have been encouraging them to get a version of Carlson that will work inside ESRI's software. Now that would be sweet.
