First time Starnet user here. Version 6. I have a conventional TS survey using TopSurv7 (FC-200 data collector) and want to adjust control point elevations. My question is what file type is best to use when exporting to use in Starnet. Nothing I have looks quite right. fbk. and RW5. would need plenty of editing. Is there a conversion tool I'm not aware of? Any helpful tips would be great about this or any other pitfalls I'm about to discover. Thanks.

There are conversion tools bundlled with StarNet, at least version 7 onwards.
Check in the start menu folder under Microsurvey you may find "Convertors" there.

I'm running V6 as well. I used to have a free version of "STAR TDS" but lost it in a computer crash. I had to purchase a license from MicroSurvey for the raw data to DAT converter I needed. They have converters for many formats of raw data. I had to download the trial version of V7 to get the converters and get a USB key for the TDS converter.

You may have the converters and not know it. They came with our version 6 back in the day (maybe we payed for them seperately, can't remember.) but they only had a few converters back then. Trimble and TDS if my memory is correct.
We still have them if you want me to try converting one of your files.

Converters for GPS vector data are included in the PRO version. The separately sold converters are for TS data. Its been that way since the first windows version (v5?) at least.

I may take you up on the offer to run a conversion. I'm in the process of leveling through my control now. But I'd much rather get this figured out here first. Maybe I need an upgrade...waiting to hear from the suits upstairs if that's an option. Thanks.

If you have the ability to export your conventional data in SDR format, I'd be glad to run it through Star*SDR to convert it to Star*Net .DAT format. The SDR>DAT conversion runs flawlessly, so it should provide a check on any other conversion from any other format, i.e. the DAT file should be the same.

Send a file to kentmcmAT swbell DOTnet if you want.

You don't need a full upgrade from V6. V6 works just as well as MicroSurvey's version. What you need is the $195 license for the converter.

My experience with the older TDS converter (at least the one I had) was that it couldn't decipher the scale factor properly from the raw data and blew up during conversion. I always had to edit my .RAW file before if worked properly. MicroSurvey's converter works much better.
