I'd be more concerned if there were warm coals under it..
Can truthfully report to having never seen such a thing in my part of the country. Our corn leads to food on your plate, not in your Mason jar.

You probably don't have the hills and woods for them to hide in, at sufficient distance from everyone else to avoid attention.
I have walked up on a few. Some them were not so authentic and consisted of old radiators. Be careful, don't drink the cloudy shine.
In the 70s those were a common find while surveying cross country electric transmission locations.
Was an important thing to seek out the local self appointed Mayor and make their acquaintance to get a feel of things and be known as no threat to anyone, that I was doing a job only and did not have to report to any lawman for any reason at all.
Sometimes I wish I would've came up during those times. I've only been surveying since 2001 but it seems like nowadays everyone i come across is pissed off for no reason at all much less actually doing something they weren't suppose to.
I said hello and asked a lady how she was doing the other day (I could already tell she was on the defense when the tires on her truck squeaked as she slammed on the brakes with cigarette hanging out of her lips). Her response was " I would be doing a h*** of a lot better if you would remember to keep that d*** gate closed and locked behind you". Keep in mind I've never been to this tract nor had I barely gotten out of the truck much less opened the gate.
Guilty until proven innocent is just part of being a surveyor I suppose.

Heh, In the '70s, more common was small patches of scrawny hemp plants.
You don't have to pine away for the seventies. We hit a 5 acre patch in the late 90's early 2000's. Didn't have a cell with a camera but for that matter I was too busy trying to get as far away as possible. My rodman cut about 35' into the crop. Had his head down chopping got into it turned around for a shot. I looked through the scope and told him we'd have to come back next week. He started griping because we were so far up the mountain. I told him to look around. When I saw the recognition hit I told him to backtrack and let's go. That was Thursday. Came back Monday to five acres of clear cut.
A few years back I stumbled upon a humongous Marijuana plant the size of me that some guy was growing in his yard hidden between other plantings. This is in a suburban area, right on the long Island sound... it was quite a sight to see. I snapped a pic and took a branch off for the heck of it. Stuck it in a cup of water to see if I can get some roots to sprout just for the fun of it. Didn't work.
We just find Meth labs in our part of the Country.
One day, back about 1980, or 1981, we were out surveying, in july or August. Came across a few pot plants, growing on the use boundary, between 2 landowners. We were dragging a 200' tape. My older brother said "wow, did you see that?" All I'd seen were weeds.
He came back later, and the plants "dissappeared".
It was my first introduction to that world.
And, my older brother never did get back on track. He died of an OD back in 2003.
I've learned not to "see stuff". I dont really care what folks want to do with their lives... But i have seen first hand where some of those choices lead.

Last summer I ran into a lot of pretty little red mushrooms in the forest.

Sorry to hear. [emoji17]
About 12 years ago my crews came across a mobile meth lab in South Texas. We called the cops and their hazmat team came. The tv news wanted to interview us, we politely declined.

I walked by a porn movie in the making. I was coming up the hill to the back side of the house, and then looked up, and through the floor to ceiling windows, saw the camera/tripod, the guy and the woman under the sheets, and two other guys, (director, camera-man?), all looking at me. I waved, and just walked on by.
So.............................you didn't even ask if they needed a stunt double or an extra?
Unfortunately, meth is a hazard around here. And the mary-ju-whanna too.

Or something like this, where US Sugar (Everglades basin North, in Glades, and Palm Beach County Fl.) grows sugar cane and apparently some other species as well. Unless you are a mercenary I would forgo a Survey job in this area. Even the "Developers" don't mess with this land. 😉
