.....control point. WTH????

Your Control Point ?
Obviously you did not have your name on it.
More paint, please.
BTW, do you know which one is yours.

Your Control Point ?
Yes. Mine is the older one with white paint. The one that was there first.
What is the distance between the two?
Oh...about 0.04'....
The thing is, whoever did that don't have my coordinates to the original cross cut. So.... why would they move it over a fuzz? So they have better lines of sight? lol!
Maybe they did it for an alternate point (diamond traverse) traverse point?
They probably ran your control traverse through a least-squares adjustment routine, and moved your actual point to match the adjusted coordinates 😉
See what you get when you leave your control traverse unadjusted?
wow
Easy to understand why
You obviously set your control point in the wrong location in the first place 😛
Adjustment for .....
tectonic plate movement. I know I'm being facetious, but that is one of the many problems with number crunchers and coordinates.
Actually The New "X Is A Closing Point
Since they do not know how to adjust, they started on your old point. traversed around and closed on the new point. That way their angles are all perfect.
The simplest solution is always the best.

Grid vs Ground ??:-P
the other guy did a better job of measuring.....so therefore your cp is wrong......

I have seen that done, Paul. I don't drink because I want to!!

That qualifies as one of the dumbest things I've ever seen done by a survey crew. I bet someone is messing with you and added the second cut to be funny.
> I bet someone is messing with you and added the second cut to be funny.
let's hope...
May be other crew when setting up their target, either initially forgot to level target or a leg went/sank in bitumen. So when occupied with TS and leveled instrument they found point was a rats prick off the existing intended traverse point location.

"my control point"? Frankly I don't see any identification or evidence of responsibility or professionalism. Leave something like that out on the public domain and that's exactly what you'll get, disrespect. :-O
Pablo B-)
Was this one of those control points for a big Highway job? Someone probably sat up their GPS on it and collected data for an OPUS session; when they found out the coords' didn't match, they adjusted to fit.
Am I close?
:snarky:

That is almost the same thought that immediately came to my mind when I first saw it and tried to understand and reason why some other surveyor would do that. But instead of using the word 'funny', I was thinking more in the terms of the word 'mischievous'. At least I hope so. I hope they're not that dumb.
This was just one of our random control points on top of a curb in a parking lot. It was set last summer and used to collect data for an ongoing fairly large preliminary route survey in a large urban area for a new construction 6-8 lane freeway. There are more than a few crews running around this area at different times performing various survey task related to this project. What you don't see is the four digit alphanumerical identifier, the first two digits identifying our company and the second two digits identifying the point number. Typical in this area on larger projects. Whoever is in the know knows who's control is who's on this project. I was trying to get a good close up shot to show the detail of the ridiculousness and that's why you don't see it.
I will be in this area for several weeks and I'll be monitoring this point to see if anyone else occupies it. It'll be loads of fun if someone does....for me at least.
