I got lucky on the solar filter fitting my new gun.

It does not fit over the objective lens, it will fit inside the sun shade to the new gun.

Dave...

> I'm 8 and a half degrees north of you so I think the star is that much higher in the sky here (if I am remembering right).

In theory, it should work out that way; but in California, who knows? :>

Dave...

San Diego is about 32 and a half North and Crescent City is almost at 42 North. So we have about 10 degrees of range in California.

Okay, but in California aren't most of the stars to be found in some affluent suburb of Lost Angles?

Malibu.

Your lake house looks like a shack compared to some of the houses literally on the beach in Malibu.

Dave...

I actually made the observations for the exam 'baseline' at one of the last MS exams, and even in Southern CA (Riverside) I did the observations of polaris well before dusk.

So that was in Riverside around 1981. There was perhaps one more MS exam after that. So not sure what he is referring to.

My point is that with some practice and not superhuman skill Polaris can be observed in the daytime from a lot of places. I have done it all day long here in MD, but of course not 'every day' would allow that.
