Having an issue getting two different sokkiia radian is units to recognize they have compact flash cards in them. Have tried many different kinds of card types and sizes. When we try to log static data using SurvCE it keeps saying the units don't recognize the cards. Any Ideas?

Will they log static to the cards without using the data collector to start the session?

You may need to do a factory reset to get the original Powerup group activated for this to happen. This is done by powering the unit on and then holding the power button down for 15 seconds and then releasing. The unit should power off and then back on and begin to collect static data to the card. Let it run for 15 minutes, power off and pull the card to see if it has data.

Our units all came with small data cards, 4 or 8 MB. I have gotten some 256MB cards to work but nothing larger.

We don't use a data collector to start static sessions, we record the point name, height, and start/stop times on paper and edit the static files in processing software. So if the issue is not the card size I can't help with the data collector end.

I think what we have discovered is the Sokkia units are recognizing the cards but when using SurvCE to try and start logging static data it tells us there isn't a recognizable card. When using these units what do you use to change the epoch interval and basic raw data settings? Ideally we would take the SurvCE data collector out of the equation. I have just started reading the original manual in hopes to just use the units to log raw data.

I think Sokkia Planning Program will allow you to change and store setting in the Radian IS units but I have never done that. The factory defaults that are set when doing a factory reset are shown on page 48 of the Radian IS Operations Manual. The default epoch is 10 seconds as well as logging ephemeris and almanac data any time it changes. This default also sets the unit up as an RTK base transmitting corrections every 1 second and base position every 10 seconds if you have the RTK radio attached via the comm port. If you use SurvCE to set up the RTK base it will also be recording static for that session.

One thing we do each day we use the units is a factory reset first thing before any static or RTK sessions because early on we found that if the unit had been set up as RTK base or Rover and then used for static it may lock up or shut down and not have the static data you expected. However if you do a factory reset it will erase any custom settings you have imported using the Planning Program. So I think if you wanted to use a custom setting for static you could do a factory reset, then load the custom settings and go to work but if something happens in the field that causes a need to do a factory reset the custom settings will be gone until re-loaded.

Hope you get things working the way you want,

Ken

Sokkia Radian IS

Figured this out. Thanks for your help. SurvCE just needed a little updating.
