I'm going to order a digital level but cannot decide which one. I currently work with sokkia equipment and am satisfied with this brand.
I know i can connect the SDL with Carlson Survce but is it possible to connect the Leica level with my allegro?
Greetings from Belgium

We recently purchased the SDL30. The on-board software is worthless but the gun does a good job of leveling. I don't like the trigger button location. It is up near the front of the gun and I am afraid by pushing it, I might push the gun off the sight on the rod. I prefer the trigger on the back face.
I don't know anything about the Sprinter 250 but if they are similar in price I would take it over the SDL30.

I have used the Sokkia 30 and I have Sprinter 150M

I prefer the Sokkia for 2 main reasons:

  • In cut/fill application, the elevation being staked is displayed on the screen. On the Leica, it is not. Example, pile cut-off at elev. 100.000, Sokkia displays as you work. The user always sees the target elevation. It reduces risks of blunders.
  • At -10 degree Celcius, the Sprinter stops working with no warning before complete shut-off; error message: "Too cold".

Aside from this, the Leica remains a quality unit at a more attractive price.

hi
i actually just sent back the sprinter 250 to leica for a refund, it has the highest specs of that model.
i would take a shot and push the side button, everytime i took a shot at the same point i got different values, by 1mm to 4 mm, so i wasnt too impressed
it could be faulty, but leica in beijing checked it out.
anyway i went and bought an NA2 optical, i would say that the sprinter is a medium level construction level, they would or should be good for a long traverse, but they have severe issues with reading in cloudy dark conditions, lowlight, dark areas, i do lots of construction projects, 500 mill and up.

i would go for the sokkia, the 30 is the top one, the 50 the low model, but funnily enough the leica specs are better.last week i did a 2 km traverse loop aroung the fence of this project, i took the average reading from the multiple readings as mentioned, and i closed within 2mm. i would not have beleived it had i not done it myself after all the funny readings. also they are only good for about 70 m each leg

i repeated the run the next day with the NA2 and a 10mm metric E staff and closed to o mm against the digital level booking on the 3rd leg, then i lost 2mm on the home run and finished square, that is 2mm within start point over 2 km, again i woudnt have beleived it if i hadnt done it myself
at least my 58 year old eyes can still read a staff at 100 m and come out ok
the sprinters have a cheap feel which made me uncomfortable, i will buy the sokkia next time

but i did see a trimble digital which look more impressive than all the others in this price range, it was dearer, early morning shots with the sun behind the staff was a no no with the leica also

but i do own a leica 1 sec TSO6, and i really really like the NA2, you can shoot faster when doing concrete pours etc, the leica takes 3 secs or so

cheers
david

> Hi,

> The Sokkia SDL30 is much more advanced in certain areas, however the Sprinter is more of a carry along level, and of course the SDL 30 is more expensive while the sprinter has its own variations, the Sokkia says to have more memory capacities while the UI of the sprinter tends to be easy.

Hi,

I've contacted my dealer and asked a few more questions and i ordered the SDL30. It's going to be delivered next week and as soon as i had some expierence with it i'll post itm.
I'm going to hook it up with the allegro and survce through a serial cable.
