Hello,
this is my first post.
I want your opinion whether or not is it worth buying a used GSR2700ISX rover.
I want to upgrade my existing equipment which is a L1 Sokkia GSR1700CSX. Already have SDR+ Pro and with minimal cost (buy only the receiver) I am ready to upgrade.
The GSR is a discontinued series so i am afraid that the support will not last long.On the other hand is a very inexpensive solution for me. If it lasts for 5 years I am fine.
Also would like to ask someone who uses it what is the performance of the receiver.
For example, how long does it take to fix if you loose the signal passing under a tree?
Any other information is welcome.
Thanks in advance!
I like my setup, although the receivers are a little heavy compared to more recent units.
As for the re-lock it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes depending on your distance from the base. (if you're using it base and rover style and not a network rover.)
I have had my system for about 5 years now and haven't had any issues. The Sokkia support is awesome. Depending on your setup you might consider getting the longer range antenna's..
Don
We have had that system since it first came out. Our crew is very happy with it and has had minimal "issues". (We use Carlson SurvCE on an Allegro).
There was a recent problem getting batteries for the units, but the rumor is that they are now being manufactured once again.
Thanks for the replies.
I want to use the receiver in a network rtk mode so I don't need the long range antennas you say.
I recently used ALTs aps3 and leica gs08 and they were very fast in obtaining a fixed solution.
The weight of the gsr is an issue because the whole rover on pole weights about 3.5kg.
Right now the Gsr1700 weights 2.4kg which I like very much.
The survce works fine using internal gsm/gprs modem?have anyone tried it?
The firmware 3.5 needs upgrade to 3.701? Have you had any issues with the glonass ephimeris resetting your receiver?
I am using three GSR2700ISX for static and RTK and am completely satisfied with the ease of use and the great results they produce.
Any comments on the firmware issue?
You all have the latest 3.701?
Anyone with 3.5 firmware?Any problems with the receiver resetting?
The problem with electronic survey equipment is after ~10 years the mfgr drops support of those models. They quit ordering circuit boards and other parts and the equip becomes boat anchors or a Studebaker.
It is not in the best interest of the mfgrs to provide equip that lasts forever like a T-2 or K&E.
I have the setup which is quite common as it was sold as a package: Base and Rover, and Allegro CX with SurvCE.
I didn't have any Glonass problems with the 3.5 firmware but upgraded to 3.701 anyway.
Minuses are probably:
Batteries are 'special', replacements are now on sale again though.
Special serial cable required for installing the new firmware.
The standard stub antenna is probably ok but there's much better performance with the longer 'Gainflex' antennas.
There's no removable memory card, to access logged data you again need a special cable.
The Lemo connector pins on the various cables including the battery charger are quite delicate, you've just got to be careful lining up the red dots.
On the plus side:
Great support, especially from Ed Castelan at Sokkia in the US.
Good performance amongst buildings/foliage etc, in six years I've never had multipath issues.
Excellent performance for static occupations.
Batteries easily last the whole day from fully charged.

Doesn't Bluetooth do this job?
With my 1700CSX I never used a cable.
My main prob with Sokkia is the support in my country.
If I buy the used receiver from another country probably the Sokkia distributor of my country will charge me for everything i need (even for upgrading the firmware).
Of course I could buy this special cable and do the upgrades myself..
BTW i contacted Ed Castelan and he told me that there is a newer firmware 3.901 but is for networking users.
Edit: Check here
The latest firmware version is 3.905 Check what's new file, very interesting!
I finally got it at a very good price of 3300$ (only the antenna).
I tried both SDR+ and SurvCE and it worked very good! Fast fix using the RTN of my country!
I had minor problems with the GSM modem disconnecting some times but it's probably the cellular network.
In general I am very satisfied with the antenna!
Thanks for the info!
