I had to replace my computer last week, and have finally gotten around to needing to download a static observation.
I have downloaded Sokkia spectrum and sokkia planning and have attempted to download today's data.
Previously I have done this successfully a number of times.
My new computer is running Windows 7 of course. bummer cause I've always been an xp kind of guy.
Now when I go to check my settings in the download for either spectrum or planning i get this screen.
In my previous life the Port listed a number of devices, and I always "checked" the last one and successfully logged into the data collector.
Now, only COM1 shows up...
I did go into the device driver in the windows control panel and all the usb drives are listed and allegedly working...
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Don

Did you look at Appendix D of the Operatons Manual? If you did and that didn't help, I'm sure Ed Castelan can help you.
Don,
I have had that happen before. Sometimes the software gets funny about the sequence you do things. For instance did you turn on the receiver before or after you brought up the download software? I believe it works best to turn on the receiver, allow your computer to fully recognize it, then enter the software to begin the download. Hope it is something simple.

You can also download the static files using Bluetooth.
If your desktop doesn't have bluetooth you can buy a bluetooth dongle.
Appendix D reminded me to download the usb driver....
The sokkia usb driver does not have an official windows certification and therefore won't load on my windows 7....
Not sure how to turn that option off in Win7....
I cannot figure out how to use bluetooth to access the receiver!!! How do you do that??
Don
On the Sokkia forum on the rpls.com site, the same problem was brought up on Sept. 21. I didn't read it in detail. But the final post is "Thank all of you, the suggestion to download the software from Novatel got every thing working."
First you must pair the receiver with the pc. Add the receiver using the passcode 0000.
After you pair it open the planning application and go to File->GSR Series Download.
Select Bluetooth connection and using the button next to the "Bluetooth connect" discover the receiver to see it on the list.
Select the receiver, press "Bluetooth connect" and you will see the files..

It doesn't appear that I am going to get the receiver and pc to talk by the cable so I am trying to connect through bluetooth.
I'm not sure where I am going wrong but the pc will not recognize the receiver, am I missing something somewhere?
I have not used bluetooth on my pc before so it's a new game to me.
Funny thing is that the control>hardware>device and printers> the NovAtel GPS receiver does show up on in the devices listing
Where am I going wrong in this process?? It's' becoming frustrating in a way that only computer issues can deal out!

I suppose you have a laptop with bluetooth or desktop with bluetooth dongle.
When you add a new bluetooth device you must have the receiver powered on and after you select it and pressing next you will see a message saying how you will pair the device. You will select the option which says "I know the passcode of the device".
You will enter four zeros 0000 and then windows will install the device using Serial port Services like below.
