My Filson blaze orange cruiser vest has faded to a pale tangerine, so I went looking for a new one. I picked up this on eBay today:
As long as the logo doesn't distract the robot (it appears to be reflective), I should be in good shape, if slightly misidentified.
sweet!
Hope you don't get in trouble for impersonating a geologist. 🙂
I'll just tell 'em I'm an Ultra-Special Geodetic Surveyor.
Or, the other option would be to peel off the "U", so that you're a Student for a Geographic Society.
looks nice, Filson makes a long-lasting product. In Az, we've been using ANSI class 2 vests to be compliant with various safety requirements. the law come to get you if you don't walk right 😉
just tell 'em you're a NASCAR driver, and USGS is the sponsor:-P
Looks like you missed this one, Jim
Jim:
I hate to mention this, but it looks as if you missed the deal of the century on a blaze orange Filson vest :

That's kind of like what mine looks like now. Mine's more faded, but at least that dirty. Washing helps, but there are so many stains that it'll never look clean. Anyway, for an extra $36 (shipping included) I gladly opted for the new one. The USGS branding is just a bonus.

Shoot if they fetch 25 bucks I have a couple of old ones I could part with LOL.
I like the back pocket for keeping a set of plans, but I'm more comfortable with the blinding yellow ones for working in the roadway.
Recetly came across this vest. I have been buying mine from these guys, this is the mesh version, mine is solid, hope they still make the one I have. These are priced so that I just replace every 1-2 years and they last just fine.

Nice find , My smart asss party chief wrote INMATE on the back of a new vest I got him a couple years back. I was a bit peeved , He got a good laugh.
Keep an eye out for the CalOSHA inspector if you get out in the street with that vest Jim.

Yes, I know that it's not compliant, but I've been wearing Filsons for so long that it's hard to switch. I'll probably do so the first time I get busted, but I rarely do construction staking (and only very small jobs when I do), so CalOSHA and I don't normally cross paths.
I used Filsons too.
But I happened to acquire a new ML Kishigo vest (ANSI Class 2) and I like it a lot. It is a little weak fabric for forest work though (it's not as tough as a Filson). Next time I think I will get one of the ones with the big back pocket so I can put my lunch in there.
I just looked at some photos of the SECO 8063 vest, which is ANSI Class 2 rated. It has what appears to be a huge back pocket (see photo below), but how do you access it without taking off the vest or being a contortionist?

The Filson back pocket goes all the way to the hem, and it's easy to reach back from either side to quickly grab stuff. I regularly carry a 25-foot pocket tape there, and it's very convenient to get hold of.

It's actually a good looking vest, I had one (or a similar one) but I kept getting snagged on to things.

I have two SECO vests of this type: the heavy duty and the lighter one. They are both good vests but in my opinion, the lighter version is better.

What makes the lighter one the better choice?
My ML Kishigo has a back pocket similar to the Filson but it has two zippers which is an advantage in very rough terrain because stuff keeps falling out of the back of the Filson. The opening is actually larger; I can get a clipboard to easily go in there which is not the case with the Filson.
I have the Caltrans series which is on Page 5:

It isn't the most durable vest but I like the overall configuration.
I agree the big back pocket is not accessible unless you take it off. I would use it to hold my lunch when we are hiking along a line far enough from the truck that I don't care to hike back at lunch time.
