I posted, last week, about the radio problem I am having with my gps receivers. A couple of you responded, and I have talked with a couple folks at sokkia, although the guy that knows the sokkia receivers has yet to call me back.

Well, I have done about all I can do with the receivers and I did finally get then to communicate with each other. (Maybe I should become a counselor?)

My problem may be as simple as conflicting radio frequencies. One support person, not familiar with Sokkia, suggested that I get a UHF scanner to find out if my frequencies are being walked on, and to be able to set up future projects. I've been using this equipment for almost 7 years, and have only changed the frequency once in all that time. However I can accept that I may have to do it again.

I did change the frequency 5 times before I was successful in obtaining a float then fix mode.

My question is, does anyone here use a scanner to determine their operating frequencies?

And what should I look for I in a scanner, if I go that route?

I have a Yaesu FT-60R handheld. [ AES Listing ]

It is a FANTASTIC radio and inexpensive. I use it all the time and I don't know how anyone can live without one or a similar tool.

It will transmit in the HAM bands (which you can lock out.) It is easy enough to program in your channel list, just type in a random frequency or tune-up and down with a knob.

I have both the NiCad battery pack and a pack [ FBA-25 ] that takes standard AA batteries.

My external UHF Satel radio Easy 3Asd have external indicator LEDs that show at the rover the following
LEDS
RTS = ready to send solid red
CTS = clear to send flashing red

TD = Blank or off for this radio is at the rover and sending no data

RD = flashing red meaning receive data
CD = Carrier detect yea there is a carrier present

This is the one time a external modem profides a little / nice bits of
info on the radio link.

If I turn on the rover and with the base off, if the carrier detect LED is on you know there is somebody on your frequency so try another one.

Give me 15 minutes I will go shut down the base and see if the carrier detect led goes of.

The above leds have saved my bacon for they provide indicators of a carrier and the
quality of the link by the regular flashing of the following LEDS

RTS
CTS
RD
CD

If had a internal UHF modem I think I would pack around a external Satel Easy 3Asd
just to trouble shoot the internal modem
the new satel easy can scan for clear channels

Talk to you in 15 Minutes I think GSR2700ISX uses satel uhf internal modems 1 Watt

The gsr2700isx has leds on the units. Base flashes green when transmitting and the receiver flashes red. The yellow shows power and that's about it for indicators.
You're correct that I have the 1 watt internal satel radios.

Do you know of anyone in the hood who could set there satel Easy 3Asd
to your configuration to see what gives.

I set everything on the keypad on the 3ASd and plug it into The GSR1700CSX.

I have spare if you where not so far away it send it to you but the next
best thing is go to a near satel survey shop and have them config 3Asd to see
what happens.

Config your rover as a base to see if it broadcasts properly to a external satel.

I must say its a swap to it works program.

My son works at radio shack and has a $50 scanner that will work in that range 461-465...

And maybe it's time for me to consider a network rtk rover and use the sokkia as static units..

And why you just don't turn them to network rovers?
If you have SurvCe you can configure them if you manage to get Internet on the data collector (easy).
