Yup. Words can really change. Back in 1978 my mother noted the rather bright-colored shirt I was wearing that day and she said, "My you look g*a*y today."
I kind of grinned. My cousin who overheard the comment laughed out loud. My mother asked what was so funny. That was the day she learned something new about the use of that word.

Yep. That is definitely a word that has taken on a LOT of different meanings and connotations in the past several decades. I actually make a point of using that word with the meaning of "happy" or "bright and showy" every once in a while just because it is fun to watch people pause when they hear me say it.

That reminds me of back in High School another kid said he was listening to the song "One Toke Over The Line" (Brewer and Shipley), and his mother said that was a nice song, but what's a "toke".
