The TSC3 has an internal quad band Edge GSM modem that works fine for connecting to an RTN, if that's all you want it for. I prefer a personal MiFi for several reasons - they're more robust, faster, can be easily updated as technology progresses, and can be used with multiple devices. The speed part doesn't matter if you're only using it for RTN, but I also communicate data to and from the field, and speed definitely does matter when you're transferring photos, static files, etc.

There's no noticeable difference between the internal modem and an external MiFi when using an RTN, as far as procedures or performance.

As Lee said, you will not see any difference between wifi to cell modems.?ÿ The data stream for GPS is extremely small.
