oops I meant description
We call it the root position. I usually take a shot on the top of the disturbed/bent monument in case that was the intention. Secondly we dig down to find where the monument starts to become vertical, place a nail and shoot that position also. Compare the results to ascertain which position may have been the original intent. Leave the nail in place for the next guy and call out the condition on our map. “Disturbed leaning north 0.3’, located root position”. The problem with two shots are the office guys who may not know the difference between descriptions “top of pipe” or “root position”. If it’s our own pipe as in the original thread?? Well… it’s different each time.
"root position"
John, I like that term. I may borrow it next time, with your permission of course.
I always just call out 'vertical alignment', but root sounds more positive as it is rooted to the intent of the location.
Also, just another example of why a PLS should be the guy in the field making those decisions. Not a button pusher that may/will just confuse the CAD guy. Another topic for another day, of course
