Had a pin pull out of the 9 pin serial port on my Spectra Precision Ranger Data Collector. I called my dealer and was told that to replace the serial port, I would have to replace the whole board inside the data collector at the price of around $300. I was able to push the pin back in and super glue it. Seems to be staying in place and is working.
Anyone else have any experience with having a port replaced? Seems like a lot of money to replace a serial port.
We broke one once, and Allen Precision fixed it for free. Actually, when our screen went, they fixed that for free too.
That said, does your instrument have blue tooth. We were using the cable, then it dawned on us to see if we could hook up wirelessly. We did, and haven't needed a cable or 9pin port since.
Had the same thing happen. APE just sent the part and I replaced it. The bottom piece is like a module. Only thing is we had to pay $300 for it. Idk how you got it for free. Screen went out too. $900. We didn't get it for free either. Kinda fishy
Yeah, it surprised me too, but it happened.
@surveyor-in-training did you replace the serial port yourself? do you know what type of toll is needed,it looks like a hex but my hexs dont fit

Hex drives (Allen Wrenches) come in both SAE and Metric, you probably need the "other" one.
