Will probably be there tomorrow, this is the 5th one I've looked for so far I'm 4 out of 4.
Kinda need it, hope I get lucky one more time.
They don't even mention the ravine in the topo calls headed north, they do call it at 2.00 going east, so I at least know it's on the south side since it runs nw-se.
Am I reading that correctly? 6"x5"x3(ft.) set 54" inches deep? If that's the case, it was buried I guess. That would be a good chance for its survival.
'Sand'stone can mean a number of different things here in Okie-Homie. Some of it is truly sound and has been called 'ironstone'. Some of it is nothing more than "quartz sand flying in close formation"...and can be broken by hand. Hope your variety up there is of the harder variety. Good luck...we want pics.
it's 6'x5'x3', so 72" long buried 54" in the ground, and I think it's the only one with a mound of stone in the entire township (I might be wrong about that, I don't remember another one).
The topo is very steep there (and a north facing slope), so I'm apprehensive.
Sandstones were the only stone in the notes for this township, these sandstones are very soft stones, you can drop them from chest high and they break into at least 3-4 pieces, sometimes even when dropping them in soft dirt.:-(
Nice 1/4's:-D
They really spent some time scribing those
"these sandstones are very soft stones, you can drop them from chest high and they break into at least 3-4 pieces, sometimes even when dropping them in soft dirt"
(In my best Archie Campbell voice...) "Then Don't Doooo that...."
Hey, how do you think I make my new mound around the shiny new cap:whistle:
The stone is out there, 6.5'x4.5, lying on the ground with a pile of stones on the south side, steep side slope and lots of rock in the area.
Could not see any markings, it's a 2x2.
If you could somehow lift it and rebury it, it should go where my cap is, I bury the original next to the stone, but I would need a backhoe and maybe dynamite. When I set the monument, it went in very easy, makes me think there was a hole that filled in.
The pile of rocks is just how I found it, I did come across a weird 1" pipe capped with a 4"x3" welded top, I figure it makes a nice accessory.
Something tells me they fudged the notes a little bit.
Doubt they took the time to bury that monument.
Around here, sometimes it is amazing how little effort was made to create a durable monument.
Sometimes a 1/4 corner might just be 3 softball sized rocks stacked next to each other, which was described as a rock mound.
If you didn't find bearing trees, you might doubt yourself.
no bearing trees in this township, probably not in any within 30-40 miles
