I'd never been signed up with SAMS until this year. I was forced to sign up to keep a MSA active. I long ago decided that my days of Federal work are behind me, but here I was signing up anyway.?ÿ

As I was going through the steps I got a warning that the Federal Government Computers blew up and it dumped me out of the sign up program. No matter what I did I couldn't get back in, it kept telling me that my DUN's number was already used. The only option was to hire a service and after a number of glitches they did get me signed up which is keeping my MSA active.?ÿ

Now about three times a week my spam file gets a notification about SAMS work, the last one looks like this:

?ÿ

The heading in big bold letters for the add is:

RUSSIA INVADES UKRAINE

Due to conflicts overseas, federal contracting reaches an all-time high. Small to medium-sized businesses are encouraged to fill gaps in the federal contracting space. All areas of contracting from services to products are needed.

?ÿ

Contracts Available for:

  • GSA Schedule Contracts
  • 8(a) Opportunities
  • Woman-Owned Small Business
  • Veteran-Owned Small Business
  • Minority-Owned Small Business
  • Small Businesses?ÿ

Not on there anymore.?ÿ However when we were, and especially for the first year after we signed up the amount of spam was incredible.?ÿ The Gov for sure sells the lists and you will get more and more 'opportunities' The only good thing that I could see is I think they were all required to have an unsubscribe link, usually right at the bottom of the email.?ÿ Click it - it does work.?ÿ But you will be doing a ton of it over the next year, and then it will temper down some, but as long as you are registered, you will get spam from that system.

?ÿ

BTW, they screwed up our registration too, conflict between legal and DBA names.?ÿ Took 2 months and only phone calls to resolve.

It comes with a heavy dose of advertisement. I can't see me ever contracting for federal work.?ÿ

Gone are the days when the local federal site facility manager would call up and request something, so we don't do fed work anymore.

About 5 years ago a firm showed up and had one of my partners get signed up with a "team" to do work on BLM projects. It took most of a week of office time to jump through all the hoops.?ÿLast year they wanted me to renew and I told them I couldn't afford to go through the process since we never got any of the work. Near as I could tell they wanted us because of all the state licenses we could bring to their lists.?ÿ

The System for Award Management (SAM.gov) is an official website of the U.S. Government. There is no cost to use SAM.gov. You can use this site to:
