My theory is drivers go around the wrong side because they are placing themselves, in the driver's seat on the left side of the car, as far away from the obstacle as possible.

Good one Ken. ?ÿShared that with my wifey, she knits my socks for me...
On Melita's link: ?ÿLoved the one about monuments getting buried but not exposed. ?ÿThat reminded mr of a job in 1991 where the Government stone was being held in place, while completely exposed, by a grouping of iron bars effectively creating a cage, ?ÿWire was laced around the bars to further constrain the large stone. ?ÿThe corner fell near the center of a small watercourse in an area with very shallow soils over bedrock.
Can't emphasize reaching out to law enforcement enough.
They do this every day, they've seen a lot of stuff in the middle of the road including when things go wrong, and they're good at planning it and keeping everyone safe.
I've seen them busy, but have never seen them unwilling to do it.
