Over the weekend, my S6 suddenly started losing radio connection.. I'm hoping it's just the external antennas, checked all the batteries, settings, etc.

I have a few en route from my dealer, but was wondering if anyone has used an off the shelf replacement in a pinch?

I's possible that the antenna cable is disconnected inside the instrument, I've seen it happen. Easy fix but has to go to a qualified service tech.

I have had a time with an older version where I had to go in and double check the radio channels in my data collector. They were right, but after "checking" them, the radio started working. Dunno if that was part of your checking the settings or not, but mentioning it in case, cause I know I hate sitting there when something simple could get me on my way. Good Luck

I would change radio channels first, then swap antennas between instrument and controller. Then try new antenna on one, then the other. Beyond that probably be a call to the dealer.

I didn't try swapping antennas.. thanks.. yes, dealer is already sending new antennas. cheapest fix first. I know the channels are set right as it hooks up at first. Or are you saying to change the channels for some other reason?

Try changing channels in case something is interfering, or it's possible those channels are just wore out. 😉

Changing channels could be similar to ctrl,ÌÊlt,del. Worth a try.

We had a radio needed replacing on a brand new S7 and a SPS620. I have had problems with TSC3 as well. I assume you have isolated that the problem is with the S6 not the logger?
I used an antenna that cam from a wifi router for a while (until the replacement came). Seemed to work OK. The antenna wasn't causing the radio problems though. It just got broken a different time.

I've used a small nail successfully to replace a missing TSC3 aerial.

Andy, does your problem occur in more than one location? - although the frequency hopping of the S6 helps, I have been on a couple of sites where radio interference seemed to be the cause of a communication problem.

Yes, it happened on the job site, then back at the office the next morning. It's due for a service anyway, so if it's not the antennas (should get the replacements before lunch) then I'll just pack it up for service.

My VX has issues like this from time to time. A reboot seems to fix the issue.

I did a reboot on the controller. is there something similar on the instrument?

Not that I'm aware of. I have gone in and changed the channel. That happens on the instrument and the DC but no reboot that I'm aware of other than taking the batter out.

My S6 suddenly would not connect today. Tried a TSC2 running survey controller (what I usually use) and a Yuma running access. Of course I was 90 minutes away from the office on a job site.

Not sure why, it is only 10 years old!

I should mention I tried different batteries on the S6 and on the TSC2, rebooted the TSC2, restarted the S6, etc. Guess I can't complain too much, ten years is a long time. Hopefully it is an easy fix, hope it is not the whole radio, that costs $$$ I am sure. And I only have one, so being down for any length of time is a problem.
