Does anybody here survey out of an RV? It seems there is no available housing
in Midland, Texas or Minot, ND?
How about putting your crew in a man camp?
When I worked on the road, that was the only way to travel.
Travel light and everything is always packed and ready to go.
Just don't try and put too many in one RV. Just because it says the unit will sleep 6, it is not always the best way to go.
I've always had a tent for backup.
😉
It seems like I am on the road as much as I am at the house.
I am thinking of a cargo trailer conversion project. I could then carry the atv or utv, and still have a place to stay for short trips.
I have been thinking about it for awhile, but if I stay on the road as much this year as I did last year, it will become a reality pretty soon.
Some of the "Toy Haulers" are really nice. The back opens to store ATVs, bikes, etc. and the "ceiling" drops down to form a bed. I've been living in a rented camper for the last 4 months and am now ready to get home to sleep in MY bed. Another month of this and I'll probably take the summer off.

I work on the road a lot. Probably spend 150-200 nights away from home a year.
I have thought about an RV but it seems like more trouble than it is worth. It is enough hassle hauling all my gear around I don't want to have to deal with an RV when I am supposed to be worrying about work.
I like pulling up to a motel and not worry about anything. They can clean the room, wash the sheets and towels, clean the toilets, etc.
I also move round a lot. At work I am rarely in a place for more than a week or two. If I was going to be working in one spot for months maybe it would make sense to get an RV or even just rent a house there.
We also usually travel with trailers of equipment so hauling an RV would require another vehicle.
I have worked in the Midland area. You can find rooms. Not cheap but they are there. Adjust your rates accordingly. Customers know it is expensive to stay there.
this works for a race team, takes a race car and seats about 6
they have used it for a couple years now...
kinda hard to see in these photos but the back door clip was moved forward... frame was Not extended, those buses are long! I have a ton of photos if someone wants

If you are out of Three Rivers, Texas, I'm sorry. I worked in Beeville for a few months and am in Victoria now.
I bought an RV in May of 2011, and my wife and I have lived in it ever since. I am office personnel now so I don't have much in the way of equipment, but many of the field hands have their families all loaded up inside and have room for our GPS boxes and chargers inside. They usually leave all the less expensive equipment in their truck beds.
I have seen my coworkers sharing RV's and it works so far as they get along. I can tell you that, if you're having an argument, there is not much room to run in one of these things. I think a toy hauler would work as has been mentioned, especially if you're leaving equipment/ ATVs in it at night. We have been here a long time so moving the RV hasn't been an issue that I've had to deal with.
If you have any other questions about RV's, let me know. I have a few years worth of experience and have helped some friends buy their own so I have an idea of what will work in certain situations and what will not.

I have worked out of all three of the those places and also George West and Alice. Not high up on my resort destination list but there are certainly worse places to be.
Last time I was in Beeville was in 2012. I actually kind of liked it there.
When doing things around Victoria unless it is north of town I like to stay in Port Lavaca.
I was in Beeville from January to March of 2011 before moving to Victoria. Been here since then. Was just in Port Lavaca Monday getting a recall done on my truck. Alice and Tilden are my least favorite places to go. Beeville grew on me, but I wasn't there long enough to get truly tired of it.
I'm moving to either Many, La or Jasper, Tx the first part of June to take over a new project there. Luckily, I live in a 34' Samsonite so there is little to no packing to be done.
