> Ted could beat the 30" setup requirement.
Well that's just stupid---Ted doesn't need a gun, he measures with his eye and stores the data in his brain...
If I had a friend's house to crash in Jax for a week. I would answer the ad and go work for this guy for a week and then turn him in to the board, and DOL... Might be worth getting paid $9/hr to protect the public and better my profession. 🙂
Fitting me into that job description should not be difficult. I'm the last of the college grads who knew how to use a plum bob and an HP48GX. 😉
I like the guys style... ie, he can honestly write.
I like the idea of working for him for a wk, and turning him in... just think what a market glut he is, and 4 boundarys a day??? If he were knocked out of the saddle, I bet the 24 surveys a wk, or 100 a month, or 1200 per yr. would FIND more ethical surveyors! What kind of coffee does he drink?
Don't be down on him too hard... heck, he MAY find an LS to work with him, AND stamp his work, if he goes up to a 9.50 hr starting wage!!!! (A big thanks for voting for Obama, look at the economy now!) (Hey, I can do the sarcasm thing too!)
Anywah, the people overseas, that BUILD alot of our USA merchandise make 5.00 a day. We are moving that direction. (thanks again Obama!)
I like his candor. Maybe he could run for public office! he he he!

From what he wrote, my guess is he is a "contract crew" for a survey broker. He probably gets $75-100 per job from the broker and has to pay any help he hires out of own pocket. A lot of "mortgage" survey brokers in FL are operating under this business model ... the notes and coordinate files get sent to a contract draftsman that makes 8 or 10 bucks per job. The broker keeps the rest.
If you run him out of town, there will be other contract crews willing to take his place. At least this guy is licensed (I guess), from what I've heard and seen, most of the "contract crews" are headed by out of work crew cheifs.
Still, "work 50 get paid 40", no breaks, paid cash ... all definite problems with the labor laws and the IRS.

Ironically, the IRS and DOL might have sharper teeth than the state regulators as far as taking these characters off the streets. As for the "Brokers", there's cures for them too if they're not sending out 1099 forms or declaring all their income.
Technically, you can probably legally pay your employees in cash. However, you need to have an EIN, file the proper documentation and withold the appropriate taxes. It's that last part that seems to trip up so many would-be politicians who have had nannys and housekeepers in their past. 😉
It's all fun and games until the IRS knocks on your door with a warrant and reposesses something you owned. A neighbor of mine went down that road... It was a beautiful Corvette.
