"Some experience preferred. Necessary Skills:

Set a tripod over a point in 30 seconds or less
know how to use a plumb bob and read a tape
know which end of a shovel you dig with
Have a good move about you, walk fast
Be able to search for AND FIND (duh) and dig up property corners while I'm doing something else
Drive the work vehicle occasionally while I work and research and report/send data and receive jobs on the fly
Be able to NOT smoke a cigarette in the vehicle with me in it between jobs and very preferably; not at all
Be able to show up or be picked up sober and NOT HUNG OVER.....if you drink all night please don't bother me. I need an alert driver/helper.

I am a Professional Surveyor & Mapper. You will be working with and for me daily in the field. We will be doing good, thorough, bulletproof work, but I get paid by the job- not by the hour. There is good news and bad news here about the work.........the bad news is these guys don't pay enough........the good news is there is a whole lot of it.................

I've been in various states of under AND unemployment for 3 years + now. This is the best offer I've had, so if you understand the concept of having to work about 50 hours for 40 hours pay and can deal with that reality, then send me your resume and a cover sheet telling me a little about yourself and your goals.................Work starts next week...I can pay 9.00/hr cash for now, but I'll take it to 9.50 in a few weeks after I get set up to start witholding taxes. I'll pay you when you work, but I can't when you don't.... No benefits except my wit and sparkling personality..................(yup, you got it, that was sarcasm)

. We need to do 4 "typical" boundary surveys per day so I'm estimating 9 hours per day "pushing it". Hopefully, most days will be shorter, but that's a lot of work done right. It'll be steady work start to finish...no hour lunches under a tree etc etc. I have 40 years experience and good equipment. If you can and want to run a total station with HP48GX (tds), fine...I'd rather run the rod anyway.....

Also, I intend on turning the first angle every day by 15 minutes after daylight, so we'll be shoving off at 6 am and even earlier in summer depending on where the first job is. It would also be a plus if you listen to classic rock or bluegrass 'cause I AIN'T listening to country or anything else that isn't, well, classic rock or bluegrass.

WHile you DO need a Drivers License (and posess the ability to drive without scaring the hen out of me), if you live around Regency/Monument Rd, East of Matthews Bridge or Southside (ish), I could pick you up most mornings as statistically, there will always be work South and West every day.

I intend on working 5 and 6 days a week when I can, so dependability and the ability to work 5 days a week EVERY week (as much as possible) is key. As I know about 15 experienced but not-to-my-standards helpers who would engage in a vigorous knife fight for steady work right now; I'll have no problem finding someone to work on Saturday if you don't want to.

Sorry this turned out so long, but I don't want to waste your time or mine. It is what it is and that's the job.

Resume, Cover for now. If I want to interview you, I'll call for professional AND personal references before interview.

I'll interview the best candidates early next week for a primary helper and an alternate or 2 who can be available on short notice. Good luck"

Sounds like this guy is selling the soul of our profession/trade to the devil of survey brokers.

Pretty much sums it up. Crank out the volume. Under a 100 buck per "survey"?

Actually, I feel sorry for the guy. That's not surveying, it's prostitution.

I would think there are enough qualified and "upstanding" folks ready to work. I am a bit surprised that guy is having trouble finding someone who fits his qualifications....

It is illegal to make a wage earner work 50 for 40.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen all the time but this guy makes himself a target by admitting to it on-line.

I took that to mean the wages were low .. I sure wouldn't be working like that for 9.00 per hour, but I have to admit, I like his writing style.

I could work for him, best job description I've read. Totally honest, says a lot for what type of surveyor he may be, although no guarantees based on one ad.

The right two man company, with the right two men (or women), can operate at peak efficiency in this market and provide much better service to the client than the big box companies.

That is illegal also.

Seems like he should get his ducks in a row before hiring an employee.

We need to do 4 "typical" boundary surveys per day so I'm estimating 9 hours per day "pushing it".

I think this sentence tells us alot more about what type of surveyor he really is.

Yeah, no kidding! 4 boundaries in a day?! He must be a mortgage inspection/report 'specialist', and just calls them boundary surveys

If he works 6 days a week and does 4 boundaries a day that leaves a lot of plats to prepare each week. I would love to see what those look like.

Wonder how he finds time to do proper research?

Not to mention all of the other things business owners must take care of regularly.

You mean you can't do a boundary survey in an average of 2 hours and 15 minutes, including travel? You must be one of those hour-lunch-under-a-tree guys.;-)

I like trees, and I like lunch, so it is a no-brainer.

Does a potential $9/hr rodman even have a computer with internet access to read a craigslist ad?

"Professional Surveyor & Mapper" is the title when you attain licensure in FL........that's what is written on the license.

I sure cant. It takes me a few minutes to get the gun set up and leveled.
