He had to be pulling my?ÿleg trying to me to come down on my price.
He called in asking for a price to survey 15-17 Acres. I gave him my price.
He replied with, "Why is it so much? I just had 250 Acres surveyed a couple years ago for $2,500."
After talking back and forth and him continuing?ÿto state that, I told him to call the other surveyor and have him do his survey because there is no way I could come close to his price if the other surveyor did 250 Acres for $2,500.
he might just be confused though. But what a call.
Clients naturally think 250 acres is 10 times harder than 25 acres but it isn't necessarily the case.
I might spend a day surveying a brand new 250 acre parcel in the Mojave Desert and 2 weeks surveying a complicated 25 acre parcel in the oldest part of town or a mountainous portion of an old Rancho.
I can honestly say, here in WV that I have never performed a boundary survey on 250 Acres for $2,500. Even if I go back to 1991 when I first started as a rodman, by boss charged more than that for that amount of acreage.

Doing a survey of a 640 acres section would likely be easier than doing 5 acres inside the same section.

We had the typical 50 x 100 foot lot. We billed the typical price. Unfortunately, it turned into a 5000 dollar job due to research and survey issues.

I've always found the Land Surveyor attitude odd that problems that can only be uncovered by starting the survey should be the responsibility of the surveyor.
I'm having a roof replaced on my other house. The roofer has an out in his contract for fixing hidden dry rot.?ÿ Wish the company was run by a Land Surveyor because then it would be the bid price no matter what.
Area has very little to do with the effort required in PLSSia and city tracts.
