Greetings,
Has anyone ever attempted to repair / install the LCD Display Panel with Touch Screen Digitizer for the Trimble TSC3 themselves?
Replacement parts are actually not that expensive but the second you take it into the shop to have the repair performed then be prepared $$$$.
The local dealer wanted over a $1,000 to replace the digitizer in my backup TSC3. I found a new digitizer on line, through Kargo-Tech. The digitizer was like $15 and my local cell phone repair guy installed it for $20. Its been good for 6 months now and seems more responsive than my new TSC3. He said the hardest part was separating the digitizer from the LCD, which was held together with some kind of glue and foam. He wasnt impressed with unit, said it reminded him of a Nintendo Gameboy.
I have a TSC3 that has a touch screen that fips out in the cold weather to the point where you have to disable it. I found a $15 chinese digitizer for the screen online. I had the thing all apart which was a lot easier than expected. Took the screen out and noticed some dirt embedded in the corner where the screen sets in. I figured I would try cleaning that along with the edges of the screen with a swab and alcohol. I put it back together and threw it in the freezer for an hour. Did not have any problems with the touch screen. The little bit of crud in the corner of the screen bed must be just enough to cause pressure on the touch screen when it gets below 40 degrees F.?ÿ Must have something to do with expansion and cotraction with the temps because it worked fine in the summer.?ÿ So now I have an extra digitizer if I ever need it. Give this a try before you try replacing the digitzer on your screen.
