Thats what I thought, but is is slightly to the left of the cross hairs, which is why you sometimes miss corners shot with open air to the left of the cross hair.

I picked this up on a high precision stakeout whilst fixing control on the walls of existing structures , the shots at shallow angles were not matching in face 1 and face 2 by up to 20mm over a distance of 50-80m , yet when averaged , were fine when checked with my S3.... did some digging , got sent a literature marked "dealer only" explaining the dr laser is lightly offset to the left and how this will affect certain measurements .... did an test one weekend and could replicate the issues with ease... that dr laser is not co axial.

My suggestion is to go and shoot reflector less control with an S6 at shallow angles in face 1 & face 2 and see for yourself..... you need to average it out like we used to , to cancel out the errors...

The saving grace for me, is I try never to come off reflectorless control at shallow angles or place it , so have always shot at nice perpendicular angles, but this job I had no choice but to shoot shallow, lucky I picked it up has I don't often F1 & F2 the measurements as the S6 has software in it to cover that.

Apparently this was quite a well document issue with the S6 when it came out, with Leica pointing it out , especially its inability to shot through chain link fences.

The torex screw driver and adjustment points on top of the telescope are there to adjust the laser pointer so it aligns with the cross hairs, the laser pointer is just that , a laser pointer, not used for measurement.

There are 2 little rubber plugs in the top and bottom of the telescope that need to be prised out. There are adjusters at the bottom of these holes. I'm sure it's in the manual.

attached extract

if the laser is slightly off centre in the telescope maybe it is only possible to get it co-axial at a particular distance. I can't find any reference to it being off centre though.

I saw random wild busts in the 1980s with a Set2C, and I've read of similar problems with a variety of Sokkia guns ever since. I'm wondering if it might be a design issue common to all instruments of that brand.

In the 80's I was using a Ragemaster II for long distances out to 10-30 K and an HP3808 for up to 10 K. EDMs certainly have come a long way since then.

Every instrument becomes a Ragemaster on occasion, though I've never gone so far as to destroy one. I've thought about it, though.
