This is my data collector... Using Carlson 11 w/ intellicad...trying to get them to transfer back and forth. I just purchased two new cpus and didn't really think about whether they will work with Windows 7. Geek Squad told me that windows 7 probably didn't work.

Any of you who have a Ranger 200c know that it doesn't have usb ports, serial only, 26 pin and 9 pin. Can I install a serial port on my new CPU (dell i620)? I also believe this data collector has some form of bluetooth inside it, i was wondering if i could do wireless tranfers...I really wish i was more savy with this technology thing 🙂

How do I get the points from my data collector into my cpu? Do I have to put up and old cpu just to tranfer points...please give me a better option!

I have the Ranger 200T. I am using Vista on my laptop, and it uses the Windows Mobile Device Center. I connect using one of two methods.

First method, and the one I use the most, is to exit out of all programs on the data collector. I then use the Ranger Multi Adapter (Hayes part number 167913) and connect using a usb cable. I transfer the files by copying and pasting into file folders.

The second method would be to connect using the serial cable with the following adapter (Hayes part number 169902). This is the only adapter that I have found that worked with Vista. Keep in mind that I did not try Belkin, or any of the major brands. I was working with Hayes on transfer issues, and they sent me one to try, and it worked, so I stopped looking.

I hope this helps. I do not use Windows 7 yet.

I do not know about instaling a serial port on your computer. I had to have one installed on my desktop when I bought it about 4 years ago when I opened my business. I would suspect that your local pc shop should be able to get it working.

Thanks Jimmy,

As always you are very helpful. I found a thread from a while ago where you and others were discussing this very problem. I purchased one of the null adapters and hope that will end my frustrations. It will probably be here in about two weeks. If that doesn't work I guess I will give the guys at hayes a call and see what they say.

I am also going to have to get some security software. I am curious to what most of you use and trust your buisness with.

I use avast, spybot, superspyware, and malware bytes I believe. These are some of the programs that Wendell suggests. He is the man when it comes to this type of stuff. I trust his judgement on computer issues.

I hope your adapter works. Those 200 Rangers are still viable data collectors. I rotate between my 200T Ranger and my 500X. I like them both, and it is very helpful to have two data collectors, even as a solo operator. There are times when I split me and my part time helper into two crews. I'll use the gps and he will use the rtk. Really helpful for those larger jobs.

I use the 200c adapter jimmy mentioned with windows 7 ... No problem. I connect using windows mobil, which is like the new version of activsync.

Hmmm. Just noticed my link doesn't work, seems like it worked yesterday. It's on this page.

I use a USB to serial adaptor to use for downloading DC to CPU that I got from Radio Shack. Works good on all my units. I have an sdr33, a Carlson explorer II and a husky.

Hope this helps

In the past, in order to connect my older TDS Ranger with ActiveSync (CPU was running Windows XP), I had to install a "USB to Serial" adaptor and the related software on my computer.... and had to rename COM ports. Quite an ordeal.

I recently was upgraded to Windows 7, and therefore had to install Windows Mobile Device Center. The Ranger, with all the previous hardware attached, would not connect.

Fortunately, I still have a 9-Pin serial connection on my CPU. So I simply removed all the "Frankenstein" hardware, and connected the serial cable directly to the CPU's 9-pin port.

Windows Mobile fired right up - and immediately connected to the Ranger.
