This function is amazing, we just keep coming up with more uses for it. 😉

As long as one doesn't require a lot of accuracy, I suppose it can be useful. I'd be interested in learning how people are using it.

To me, the calibration requirements are too much of a nuisance to bother with (I assume the Trimble technology is similar to the Javad in this regard). But then I don't have a lot of experience with RTK. Heck, I still use a pole with an 8-minute bubble with what is, under favorable conditions, a 1-cm (at 1-sigma) technology.

Well, we typically see less than .01' so the accuracy depends mostly on good measurements of the rod height. And it's of course helpful if there is no dimple for obvious reasons. The accuracy with the R10 RTK has been a real eye opener, it was good before, but now it's off the charts. And the tilt function is a bigger part of the tool box than any of us realized it would be.

With the R10 the magnetometer calibration is a pain in the a$$ but you don't need to perform those unless you want to use tilt compensation beyond the range of the tilt sensors. The tilt sensor calibration is simple - just put the R10 on a level tribrach or pole and push a couple buttons - voila.

You are seeing just what we are, and the accuracy has been surprising, and if you think it out carefully, it's obvious how this function can be used to improve your checks and data. 😉

Love it too Moe. Unless i'm around metal. Great for tying wood construction bldg corners at true location. Nabbed a 1/4 corner under a fence with biting dogs on the other side! Have tested the "compensated point" numerous times against "observed control" and have always been better than 0.05'. Of course I've found some areas in Bozeman & Butte that makes the Access lady tell me "Magnetic Disturbance".

I thought it would be nice once in a while but we are using it all the time.

that's right, dimples make the tip of the rod slip when using the tilt function, they must be eliminated at all costs:-@
