Reposting as I accidentally put it in the non-surverying category..TWICE........
Good morning/afternoon all,
Just looking for reassurance. Doing an elevation certificate and A8-a is looking for square footage of "crawl space or enclosure" and reference's diagrams 6-9. The house on the site has a full depth foundation (=/- 7'), which I would take from the instructions, is not considered a crawl space or an enclosure.......or is it?? I will call it off in the comment section but should A8-a be filled out?? appreciate your responces! thanks...........
this is a pic from inside the basement....+/- about 7' from floor to first floor joists....Outside the foundation reveal is about 2.5'......
Doors and windows are not considered opening plus the bottom of any opening has to be less than one foot above the grade to qualilfy.
Have you considered diagram 2.
Agreed, appears you have a diagram 1 or 2 there. If that is the case, no need to fill out that section.
I'm sure that its diagram 2, just wondering if the basement would be classified as a "crawlspace or enclosure" which A8-a would need to be filled out.....
No, a basement is an enclosure for the purpose of the form.
So your saying no need to fill out that section but yes it would be considered an enclosure? it has both "crawl space or enclosure" on A8-a, if it's an enclosure than it would need to be filled out....Sorry, just not understanding you....I do appreciate your input though!
You don't need to fill it out, the basement is not an enclosure.
Sorry for not being clear, I just noticed why it was confusing. Should have said not an enclosure
I disagree and think A8a needs to be filled out.
I would consider that to be a diagram 2 which does not require sq.ft. Only Diagrams 6-9 require crawlspace/enclosure sq.ft Diagram 6 shows the example of an enclosure. You will need to be sure and show the elevation of the basement as your C2.a and the main floor as your c2.b.
What are the reasons for your thinking it needs to be entered?
I just love government and it's ability to stop a clock. Here is a form that I am sure FEMA spent hours upon hours and mucho dinero to publish. Yet it can be interpreted in multiple ways by the very people who are it's intended users.
While I believe that is diagram #2, and if you look at the cert instructions one could say that you don't need to include A8(a). But I don't see the harm in adding the square footage of the basement.
If the Basement is over 5 feet, and more than 2 feet below ground (which in the northeast they usually are due to frost levels) then its diagram #2.
Its a little vague (IMHO). The form doesn't say not to include the basement area if its Diagram #2, but the instructions also lead you to believe that since section "A" doesn't appear on Diagram #2 and it does appear on Diagram #8, then its only needed on diagram #8.
