Subject: Submission of Elevation Certificates

Why can‰Ûªt we just email them the EC? This is going to be a another time consuming PITA.
The following from our Board.

‰ÛÏGood Afternoon,

Effective January 1, 2017 a copy of each elevation certificate completed by a surveyor and mapper shall be submitted to the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM). The Florida Statute 472.0366 requiring such submission is listed below.

FDEM worked with representatives from the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society, the Florida Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers, and the office of Florida Senator Brandes to create a solution to meet the requirements of the law. A user friendly database has been created where you may now easily upload a copy of your certificates:

Thank you all and Happy New Year!

Well, I'm not from Florida.
And, I don't do EC's.
But, I'll bet I can provide some text for your screen.
It's a little like a McDonald's kiosk, in the west.
Fema, et al does not wish to provide 15.00 an hr, plus Obummer care, plus paid holy days, plus workmans comp, plus mental health insurance, in case their worker goes "unhinged", because the form MAILED in to the clerk, and given to the secretary, and passed to the trainee, contains all the garbage those automated forms require. Except, one item was not quite right, and required thought. So...
If you fill it in yourself, YOU are the person, (non gender specific, as having ANY gender is now BAD.) Who is feeding the kiosk.
So, it has IMMEDIATE abortion, flashes the bad part of the form. Kind of like paying online, via credit card, and you failed to put your telephone number, in the correct format, and font.
So, having the SURVEYOR fill in the form, saves them some 15 bucks an hr, times 4, pluss having to rent office space, and provide a wall, to hang the non discriminatory notice and form on.
Besides, pay for electric, and drinking fountain, and a janitor, and toilet cleaning services.
This amounts to a savings of $400,000 a year. Because, a surveyor buys his, (or her, or something in between's) own toilet paper, and will poop in the woods.
And, some surveyors will perform this, 10x a day, and charge 25 bucks.
Not to mention, not having to buy poofy hats, for the employees.
I may not have given you the answer you wanted. I dont know what you wanted.
But, there could be a shred of truth ta all that malarkey. And it SAVES PAPER. Ultimately, saving the planet.

We currently have to "submit" a scan of our Boundary Surveys to the Arkansas State Land Surveyor (Arkansas Geographic Information Office) for FREE download. I can see our market for EC's going to the GIS folks.
Sigh,

Who is going to have access to the archives and?

It is surprising how many database exist that are being held ransom by some contractor that was hired to create their record books and digital inhouse files.

Most are setup to be accessed by only their software and feel that they own the database and the public that it represents have to pay mega bucks for its storage.

If not for third party programs, I would not be able to access digital public records that can be obtained in bulk.

Andy,
If you are referring to Fla. EC, this Hillbilly downloaded a couple for reference...
As far as the Arkansas Plats, YOU or ANYBODY can download, print, and reuse ANY survey that NATE the SIRVEYER has filed...

You can thank the state society for this one. You can't blame the Florida Board as they only do what the state society tells them to do.

This was not the society, state or FEMA that was requesting this. The Society, regulatory board and the Department of Emergency Management worked together to limit surveyors exposure and remove the requirement to sign said ec's when submitting to the state. This was brought by an elected official in Florida from what I remember about it. What I found was State Senator Brandes made the amendment!

See the amendment S.B 1288. This was before adoption. It won't allow me to add a link yet as this is my first reply!
