I am the owner of one dozen Magellan Promark Xcm GPS, with firmware from 5.01-5.03. ?ÿThe latest(the LAST), firmware is 5.04, which I would like to find. The units look almost brand new with all cabling and such
All my older computers have been burned up(in a barn fire), so that access is no longer available.
If anyone out there remembers what the software was for post-processing ... well ... I've forgotten. ?ÿI think the files are *.CAR files, but I don't remember how I got the files, either into RINEX or is I might have had a truly, truly old software that would only calculate one vector at a time ... BUT, would make a RINEX.
BTW ... I know it's a slim idea/thought, but I paid about $20 each, plus the antennas are about $25 each and would let them go for about $50 each. ?ÿSix of them will be used to set up a buddy in GPS ... after 15 or so years of pushing him.
I'm racking my brains to remember how I used them ... even did some Stop & Go with them.

I see Mark Silver is with Topcon and I think he might have cut his teeth on the Promark Xcm units ... I'll give him a holler ... hope he kept his floppys...
Those receivers predate my association with the Thales, MagPro, Ashtech series of companies...
I kind of think that there might be something in this web folder:
https://ashgps.com/2/iG__FTPMirror/20130710/Land%20Survey/Older%20Products/index.htm
But I don't see it directly.
It might be museum time for those?ÿ

I didn't see anything either. Problem is everything I owned got all burned up in Dec 2016 ... EVERYTHING.
I am trying to show a surveyor(southern Ohio), the benefits of using GPS. Been working on him for about 15 years.
Took me about 20 years to move him up from a Timex/Sinclair computer to an old IBM computer ... never got him into cad ... oh gad.
Now I just ran across some Promark Xcm's that record good data, even though the report a date from 1,024 weeks ago. Thinking RINEX and new date will take care of this. Now I'm trying to do data transfers, and although I remember something that was not in the manual, has to be done to download the data ... I really need to find someone I can knash ideas with.
BTW the year date is only 2 digits, but I used Promark Xcm's until 2008 ... dates always wrong ... RINEX ... change date ... compute.
Are old discussions back to 2004 or so still available?
John
Dude, I realize sometimes we get a bit stubborn and pig headed but If you have been working on this fella for 15 years it is about 14 years and 6 months past time to cut your losses and pursue greener pastures.
Now you have spent money on old obsolete gps gear that could have been better spent on a new fly rod.
I always figured Promarks were some kind of handheld GIS unit.?ÿ
So I did a quick Google and the only reference is for this site and Promark3's and such. The only links for the Xcm's seem to be foreign language sites.?ÿ
It may be a unit that time has passed by.?ÿ
But I don't need a new flyrod.
I'm long retired and got these GPS for a song & dance ...
I've always enjoyed moving this guy, that I've known and worked with for over 44 years, and I very much like nudging him toward technology ... in small steps ... and the added plus is he operates in southern Ohio, where I've always enjoyed flyfishing and walking in the woods(used to be a naturalist).
In essense, there are no losses to be cut and the "obsolete gps gear", may be old, but not proven to be obsolete ... it still works and still records DIF files(*.car). I know how to manipulate RINEX files, but I'm having problems downloading the data, which might be caused by the firmware.
If he likes it ... well okay ... if he doesn't ... well okay. I'm not too worried about it.
I never asked for or expected a glib "Ann Landers", type, worthless reply, regarding a dear friend you know nothing about.
I'm simply asking for information or a location of firmware for a Magellan Xcm GPS ... you have neither to offer and nothing to say.
NOTHING is "obsolete", when it still works as it should, aside from the RS232 downloading issue ... a software issue ...
Oh come on, of course you need a new fly rod. ????
