All,
I have been experiencing repeated radio signal loss at the TSC3.
The radio signal loss begins between 400 and 475 feet when I am working in woods, even when I can see the flashing light on the instrument.
Along open roads, the radio still reaches over a 1/2 mile.
I used another surveyor's older Topcon Robot with external radios at the tripod and on the rod, cabled to a Nomad collector, and had no problem with radio connection at over 1/4 mile from the instrument. This was in woods with the same density as the photo below.
It was drizzling this day, but this has been my repeated experience in sunny weather as well.
Is this normal?
Any options to make the S6 w/TSC3 more robust in this respect?
You may have bad antennas, a bad internal antenna cable or the radios may need to be tuned. While this can be a problem from time to time with these units it's not a common thing. Get it to a service partner and they can test each. We test up to 2k feet here.
Yeah, something is definitely not right with the radio's or antennae. We run the same system and haven't had any problems with radio's in the woods out to at least 1/4 mile.
I have never understood Trimbles radios. Takes so long to connect from controller to gun. But at that distance you have some real problems though.
