I've never found a GLO post. Can you read anything on it? How old?

It appeared to be blank, but this was the first recon picture. Will be back there this week and take a closer look at it. I didn't put a lot of weight on it because it was so far "off" where I thought it should be, then I located the two section corners east and west and it looks much better now.

For some reason they set a number of these.

It's not like there weren't plenty of stones to use, don't know why they would place posts out there. This one I'm not real sure about. It did call for a post and this one is 2634 from a found pile to the west, but it looks a bit to nice for an old post. I've seen a number of old post corners which did have marks. It's amazing that they would last 130 years.

Not much rain falls in that country. I've sure seen nice scribed posts from 1876 and this survey is 1881 vintage so it is possible.

In my area posts and mounds were from GLO surveys 1855-56. These where in the valley, grassland and wet meadow. I hope to find one some day but probably never will. There are a few posts in later surveys but I've never found one of those either. Maybe I'll need to make a road trip somewhere just to see one in the wild.

Yeah there are some nice ones around here. Two along the state line that are really well marked. But hard to get too.
