Got to be one of my favorite times of year to be out doing field work.
That be the Matanuska Glacier behind me.

Stuffing my face between shots.

Yep. Life is good.

I couldn't detect the swarms of insects.
Are there none?
Serious question.

Yep, where there are plentiful berries means "Bears" to me. Smokey and Yogi are the only ones I feel comfortable around. 😉

This time of year, things are cooling off, bugs aren't bad. It's all about the place and the timing. Swatted a few skeeters yesterday but nothing like the clouds of the blood suckers you'll find in wet marshy areas with no wind to keep them at bay. They were insanely thick around my place back in June/early July. Now, hardly any at all.

I don't go anywhere during the summer here without bug dope.

I consider myself pretty lucky to see a bear, preferably at a good distance. This time of year they are either high up on the slopes in the background fattening up for winter on berries or hanging around the salmon streams. We like to make plenty of commotion so as not to surprise one plowing through the brush.

More Pics from the field (the last I promise)

Having some fun with the new camera. Canon Rebel T5i. Finished up today out there, sigh. Now I get to spend Monday glued to the freaking computer drawing everything up.
I'm so glad I'm not a full time computer jockey and I also get to be the field grunt.

17 mm

300 mm

Have a great weekend all.
Willy out.

Blueberries Richard

Picked 10 gallons over the weekend for berry crisp and pies over the winter.

Paul, they beat tracks first sign of man and for good reason. Call those competitors 'Berry Bears', and they are most delicious! I just have no heart for hunting them anymore.
