If you want to know what the frost is likely to do to your contraption, consult a local Geotechnical outfit.
We just built some permanent monuments. We had an excivator dig a 4' X 4' X 4' deep hole. Then we put in a 12" Helixdriven to a depth of 16 feet or until refusal. We hit refusal at about 14 feet on all 4. We cut off the shaft of the helix 18" above the bottom of the hole, and installed a grid of 5/8" rebar on 6" centers 6" above the bottom of the hole, then repeated the grid of rebar 10" higher. We filled the hole to a depth of 24" with concrete, then set a 10" Schedule 80 stainless steel pipeof the Helix shaft and into the concrete, inserted 4 5/8" rebars in the pipe with bracing and filled it with concrete. and put a SECO 1 510 001 Column Plate on top. We then put an 18" steele pipe around it to protect the column. Here is a picture of one of them.
Maybe when Bubba hooks up his winch to something he will chose one of the bollards because the don't move any like the gray pipe.
Can that be a Z-12 with a Whopper? Only issue with those is the long download time, unless you are logging at 30 secs. They just never quit do they?
Did you keep track of the cost per monument? They look like they are forever marks but maybe a bit pricey.
Yes that is an Ashtech Z-12 with a Whopper. I was logging at 3 second but did 7 hour sessions. We have 4 monuments like that and I just selected pictures for one of them at random. We call the monuments DDT1, DDT2, DDT3, and DDT4. I had Ashtech Z-12 on DDT3 and DDT4. I had a Leica SR530 on DDT2. I had an OPUSX90 on DDT1. The OPUSX90 is still collecting data on DDT1 except for the short time it takes to download it and once when we let the battery go dead. I have submitted about 25 days of data to OPUS and the residuals are very small.
We are going to get another round of GPS on the Pillars soon to ensure that they are stable. Thoise old Ashtech Z-12 just keep on going. Download 4 of them is a one beer operation.
