I just got a call from a guy I used to work with. He's in field with some equipment that won't communicate, and he's stuck.
He's got TopSurv ver. 7.3 and a new Nikon Nivo 5M total station with 2 new cables and the TopSurv will not get past the backsight screen. I've never used any of this stuff, so I'm putting it out there.
What settings are needed in the gun and collector to make them talk?
He says he can get the edm to fire as a distance measurement check but nothing gets stored. He's tried all the Nikon and SET settings on the gun and Nikon and Sokkia settings on the collector. He says he's tried Bluetooth connection under Sokkia SCT6 as well, the only instrument selection in the list that has BT as an option.
Can anyone help? Thanks.
I would look first to my Nikon vendor about getting things to work. You got the Nikon User Manual for that gun????
I don't know anything about that setup. But-if it hasn't already been tried-reboot. That fixes a lot of erratic behavior.
Sometimes when you have the wrong baud rates and comm parameters in there it will sort of communicate but not really fooling you into thinking that isn't the problem.
Check to make sure the baud rates and number of bit, etc. exactly matches in the instrument and the DC.
Must be an odd combination of equipment. I told him he should have gotten a different DC, but he said it wasn't up to him. Thanks!
Topsurv is a POS sometimes and does wierd things that you dont want it to..I had the same trouble and now I just change the mode to "manuel", go to the backsight screen, set the inst point and the bs point then hit what ever button it is and it will let you put in a manuel shot, I just put in all zeros, then go back to the mode screen and change to robotic and you should be good to go, its a PIA but it works.
Those Nikon' s are a pos. Had to order new cables to get mine to communicate with my dc.
