Without more info:
Hold the found monument as controlling any internal line it is supposed to mark within the plat. The chain of title would determine whether I would hold it as controlling an external line. In otherwords,?ÿ

BTW, did a survey the other day. We know for certain that none of the corners are closer than a foot in relationship to where they are "supposed to be" if holding subdivision (PLSS).
Also, many of them do not match to each other closer than 1/2 foot.
So, I survey the property line and find two corners, each within a 1.5 feet of calc when holding subdivision, and about 0.2' off from each other in distance measured vs calc. The found monuments hold in my opinion. To do otherwise would open a can of worms that would require signatures of dozens of land owners to shut again.
I had another problem recently.?ÿ The adjoiner, who had horses, had built several bins at the back corner of his lot, down near the flood plain.?ÿ The bins were made from pallets set on edge and fastened together with zip ties.?ÿ Each bin was half full of horse manure, and one bin sat squarely over the record corner.
I left it original and undisturbed.
