Pick up a few of these and sell them on eBay to pay for your trip. 😉

$380!!!!!!!!!

"100% silver" ha! I bet! Looks pretty much like brass, unless of course, all the brass ones I use are really silver. 😛

Yep, with the price of silver at $20/oz. the high bidder probably thought they were getting a bargain!

I believe these are actually cast aluminum, but I haven't dug any out yet to verify. |-)

Its been like 15 years since I've been to Disney Orlando but I seem to remember seeing both brass and aluminum control points. I found this article that has pictures of both brass and aluminum Disney markers:
http://www.berntsen.com/Portals/3/pdfs/TheAmericanSurveyor_Winter-MappingTheWorld_September2007.pdf

I think the ebay seller had the picture of the aluminum marker and used it as proof that he was really selling 'silver'.

What about the concrete? By the tapering of the concrete, it almost looks like those were pre-cast and planted as needed. I would have guessed longer concrete pillars would have been used for more stability. Seems like a Mickey Mouse monument.... 😉

It's a 4"x4"x24" concrete monument. The pic is a little deceiving.

Looks like an older Disney cap and a typical PRM Permanent Reference Monument in Florida. My guess would be it was never set or was a boundary marker that got updated. It doesn't look like the brass cap control points inside the park itself.

I worked for his son Bill Hart Junior (now deceased). He was a great guy and respected surveyor, speaker at surveyors conferences, teacher at local college, always tried to help and share his vast knowledge and experience, true leader. Gave me great recommendation letter that help me in my career tremendously. Bill had the same picture on his desk.
R.I.P Mr. Hart!!

I am actually at Disney right now. I plan on looking for the control point near Pirates of the Caribbean.

You should checkout this page or Google "Disney World Benchmarks" there are tons of them if you know the nooks and crannies to look in.

I've got a bunch of old aluminum caps in distressed condition, I could stamp something on them, cast them in a rough concrete post and sell them on eBay for $390 + shipping? Sweet!!

After getting this info I was only at Animal Kingdom the last day but was able to locate the one near Rain Forest Cafe.
