Zane Grey Theatre, hosted by Dick Powell, is different than most of the old Westerns because every episode has no connection to any other episode. One channel we receive has a couple hours worth of these half-hour shows every weekday. I hope I stumble onto this one sooner or later. Sounds interesting.
The title is Utopia, Wyoming.
I remember one TV show (The Rifleman?) with a scene of a survey crew. As the "bad guys" came racing toward them the instrument man THREW the instrument and tripod into the back of the wagon. It made my skin crawl just to watch, I was an Iman at the time.

If Mongo was coming after me with a mean enough look on his face, I might have just left the instrument there! I always wondered why there wasn't more old westerns with surveyors, since surveyors were the lead of the settlers. I have read some diary accounts of surveyors having some not to nice encounters with the Indians once the Indians figured out that white man followed the guys who set the rock piles.
