Somebody will figure it out....
Looks like machine control setup on some sort automatic skreeding machine to put down the rough gravel before the asphault comes in.
I don't see any catch basins. Is it a pervious paving material?
Easy - A paving crew with no Mexicans.
Winner....we have a winner!!!!!
yes its pervious concrete...no catch basins!!! no detention basin..
And yes Big E you are correct as well...concrete must be poured level, so they use a laser to guide the machine in leveling the concrete.
Winner....we have a winner!!!!!
Just curious.
We try to pour asphalt at a certain slope so as to be self cleaning. Will sand and silt ever permeate the concrete and affect the it's ability to drain water from the parking lot?
An all white paving crew.
Everybody appears to be doing something! No one is just standing around watching...
Not seeing that, unless holding a shovel as plumb as possible is doing something.

Cleaning Pervious Pavement
Pervious pavement requires a maintenance program. At the minimum it should be surface cleaned, preferably vacuumed several times a year to keep the fine material from clogging the pores.
One of my professional concerns with pervious pavement is the failure to perform this maintenance. The build it and forget it mentality.

I agree. I took some cont. ed. classes at NC State and they found permeable asphalt will compress over time and lose porosity. The permeable concrete if poured more than 5" thick will eventually fail due to vacuum trucks no being able to suck fines out much deeper. The last three site plans I've done utilized the brick pavers. So far they hold up well and are easy to clean and maintain.

not to mention its bizarre appearance. when i first saw it, i thought the finishers forgot to use the vibrator and just knocked it down with a float. no trowels, no broom finish

Gary-
Can/would you expand on this please:
"The last three site plans I've done utilized the brick pavers" ?
Thank you

I believe he means that brick or concrete pavers with the proper sub base can function as a pervious surface. The design of the area below the pavers, as with pervious asphalt and concrete, is extremely important in making the system work.the selection of base materials are critical, and no sand between the pavers.
Also I agree with a previous poster that pervious concrete, done correctly, looks like like crap. If you finish the surface it becomes impervious.

Here's a link to one style that I've seen successfully installed and used for a number of years
permeable pavers
edit: I'll be working near the site that has them installed (maybe about 15 years ago) and I'll get some pic;s next time I'm there...
open grade ashpalt is popular on the roadways but for traction, not drainage.
It is very loud in the car, though.

Actually, its quieter in the car. CalTrans has used it specifically as a noise attenuator. The freeway by Stanford U is a recent example of that.
Another huge benefit is reduced wheel spray, greatly improving visibility and therefor safety.
Traction is another added benefit, but is actually not the primary reason. Most applications are for reduced spray and improved visibility. It is used extensively on straight sections of freeway, where friction values are really not the level of concern that would warrant a non-structural layer of AC. Otherwise it would be only an item for curvilinear roadways.
So, in a sense, its primary purpose is drainage, as it removes surface flow and practically eliminates wheel spray and hydroplaning. i.e. improved surface drainage.

Thank Y'all !

Gary,
That may have been true in the past, but this concrete has bigger voids in it, which allows any fines to sink through to the gravel.
Pervious concrete is perfect for working in sensitive environmental areas. Which this site is (adjacent to a wetland) so we were able to increase parking without impacting the wetlands..
It was weird seeing all this concrete being poured with no rebar....
I won't address the comments about being an 'all-white' crew...but i will say this...if you don't know what your doing...you have to pull it all out!!!
