Ongoing construction of our local ski area's new quad chair lift. This thing is a 4' square piece of plywood!
At first I thought it might be on the centerline of the lift line, but looking at the drainage layout under the base station, it doesn't appear to be so.
No reason for it to be though. That's what total stations are for after all.
Advertisement for Purina Mills?
Used those in the 70s & 80s on baselines for construction inside paper mills across the South.
Some of them may still be there as far as I know.
They would stay in place until they needed to be removed and replaced by new construction.
cheap and readily accessible targets for sighting in each season too.
Had a couple of those on a power plant job in the early 80's. This was before we had an edm.
I actually figured out the math for a three point, angles only, resection and get the coordinates for a random point but I didn't write it down in enough detail that I could figure it out later. I tried for years after that to figure it out again, finally gave up.
With the internet, I could probably find the solution in 5 minutes now.

Looks like an aerial target to me.
Avalanche control gun sight for daily calibration?
Lots great stories here in SLC from shells that accidentally get shot over the ridge and end up in town.

Here is a target I found out west that was centered over a USGS triangulation station on a military base...
Almost ready to pour the base station plinths. Looks like it will take about 35 yards of concrete. The 2"x42" anchor bolts were welded into a 3" x 3" x 3/8" angle iron cage prior to insertion into the form. No TS needed (except to get the assembly in the right place. There's two of these side-by-side probably to support the bridge that holds the lower station bull wheel. Cool.
[SARCASM]Wow! I knew you wanted a new astro sighting station, but this seems overkill.[/SARCASM]
