The clients for today's survey job were very interesting. A very nice couple who have only been married a couple of years but who are probably in their late 50's. As I had talked with both of them over the phone I knew by their accents that neither had spent their entire life where there farm is located. It turned out he was native to the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania area where he had grown up on a dairy farm, but worked heavy construction related to housing for many years. She was a native of Alabama. The met on the internet. Both wanted a fresh start in a whole new part of the country. Somehow they picked St. Joseph, Missouri. That was fine for a bit but they decided to look to buy a larger farm where they could do some serious business in raising and training horses. Through a friend of a friend of a friend they found their current home.
This area is known for the Border battles between those in Missouri and those in Kansas holding extremely different views during the 1860's. Many people died on both sides of the line without leaving their own property. Different names were applied to those doing the killing depending on which side of the conflict they supported.
The new battle line was drawn today. Our clients from Pennsylvania and Alabama are about to stir things up with the adjoiner. The adjoiner is also a transplant to the area, having arrived only a year or two ago from Alabama, of all places. This will be a tree hugger/anti-tree hugger sort of battle.
And you're going to erect monuments to this?
Sure. One on each end with a bunch of miniatures along the line with FLO-Orange signage to help visitors to the site have a more pleasant vacation. With or without baseball bats.
Forgot to mention the client from Pennsylvania has the north side of the line and the owner from Alabama has the south side of the line.
So is this another case of Northern Aggression?

You want to see "Northern Aggression", take a drive on I-95 from West Palm Beach to South Miami. Bring a gun or a RPG with you. 😉
