Is anyone retrieving NGS datasheets on an iPhone? I can successfully go to the site, enter the parameters by name, PID, or search area in the usual manner as if doing from a PC. After I click on the "submit" button the site then comes up with a new page, but with blank information.
might be something to do with the iCloud setting.
but I am just guessing.
One of my employees looked up one once on a job site - successfully, but he does not have an iPhone. It's an Android of some type.
Probably not an answer you were looking for, but just thought I'd toss it out.
If you download the datasheets as a shape file, you can convert them to a .kml or .kmz file (using a free online conversion programs) and view them on the iPhone Google Earth application, which has a link to view the datasheets.
You have to load them into Google Maps on a PC, then set Google Earth to read that address.
Fairly handy once you go through the effort.
Just downloaded a free app called "Find-A-Control" by Critigen.
It shows you the NGS control marks over an aerial/topo/road type mapping and links you to the dtatsheets.
It seems to work fine. Best of all it's free.
This is a cool Android app

Have a great week! B-)
You can also create a free ArcGIS account through ESRI, create a map on your account with NGS monuments as a layer (just search NGS monuments on the free cloud server), save it, download the ArcGIS app on your smartphone, access your saved map, select the monument you want on your phone, and the NGS data sheet is hyper linked.

Can you also upload your own data to that ESRI account?/ If so, would it become "public" ?? If you happen to know any other details, I'm sure we'd love to hear about it.

Use Findacontrol - great app!
Andy,
Yes, you can upload csv, shp, kml/kmz, and gpx files. The web app supports drag and drop if you use google chrome or firefox. Once you have loaded features into your map, you can save the map, and it will be available on your mobile device.
I don't use it that much, mostly because I forget I have it, but the ESRI website looks like it offers a 30-day trial to arcGIS online, and then you have to pay for different levels of membership that include security options, amount of data storage etc.. I set up an account about 5 years ago, and I was able to create a map today, and access it from my iphone, and I haven't signed up for or paid a membership fee. So my guess is there is some functionality with the free membership. I would recommend calling ESRI for additional details.
It should work it is just displaying a web page. My ancient Blackberry can do it, but I am sometimes surprised to hear what an iPhone can't do, so YMMV.

FindAControl application is very nice.
Thanks!!
