Hi,
I may be going back to china for another project and am looking for a new leica, i dont like their operating logic, but love the machines.
Are other brands comparable for lens clarity and build quality, but also re-sale value.
i can afford the leica, money is not an issue.
took this photo last week, we pulled up beside a 5 metre croc on the bank, scratched its back with a stick, then gave it a feed, it was in the adelaide river in the northern territory. years ago when they made the first croc dundee movie i was dating the stunt double for linda kawolski.
funny thing was guys were on the boat ramp, they would stand chest deep in the water un hooking the boat, pretty dumb i thought.
I have been a Leica customer for 20 years.
I have decided Leica is not worth the money.
I have owned several pieces of Sokkia and Topcon equipment and like them.
After my last piece of Leica GPS I will never buy again. It wasn't the equipment quality either - more the fact it doesn’t do what I was told it would do and Leica doesn’t care. I called Leica tech support and to my surprise the tech guy asked me what Leica had lied to me about before I even told him my name. That should tell you something.
When you catch that thing and get him hooked up, what are you intending to catch that you need such bait? I liked Wild equipment, never liked or considered Leica worthy of such heritage.
jud
I think you'll find a pretty big following for Leixa, as you would Topcon and Trimble in other areas. If youre a fan of Leica, the dealers can be competitive. What model are you looking at?
I happen to like several models of equipment out there. I have yet to ever be able to sell a brand other than Leica for 80 percent retail costs, 7-8 years later.
Most importantly though is the support you get through the LOCAL dealer. I don't care what anyone says but Internet companies can not fully support their brands by phone. They get get through some things but not everything like a good, local dealer.
I've been to Australia and have seen those monsters in person. Seeing this picture makes me feel fortunate that I only have to deal with alligators here in Florida. I'd take my chances any day in a lake with a thousand gators than a lake with one crocodile like that.
I have ran into problems like the ones you have described. In time, the free market will give them what they deserve.
I wonder if that croc...knowing that humans feed them so well...will now be attracted to the guys loading/unloading their boats at the boat ramp?

Leica isn't really more expensive than other top brands (Topcon, Trimble) anymore.
hi
i will be doing construction in low light conditions once the mainframe is up, so just a good 2 sec total staion, not robotic due to tolerances.
the croc just takes the pig meat and cuts the string with its teeth.
but do sokkia t.s. have good optics like the leica
cheers

Not sure what you mean by "good optics" ? I have always been able to see the prism through the telescope 🙂
I think you are buying into the advertising hype of Leica. It is similar to buying a Ferrari. After you bought one you want to justify the cost of the brand with the return on your work.
Unfortunately Leica will give the same distance measurement with that of a Topcon or Sokkia.
I am more of a Topcon/Sokkia guy because I like Japanese brands. I think Topcon/Sokkia are top of the line in Japan (or so I was told by the seller :-P)
If you can afford a Lieca, you can afford a Trimble. The optics in Trimble are Zeiss. The S6 or S3 will get the job done. I saw some good deals on Ebay AUS.
