@Just A. Surveyor I use Excel but have an Android database application called Memento.
It's pretty simple and is robust from my experience.
I used to be able to handle Lotus databases but never cracked into Access.
Thanks for GE tip Andy. That is very neat.
With regards to Memento, I have my expenses and income in that also.
I did make a time logger but didn't get to link all together. That can be done in Memento.
I don't get the data import wizard, is there something I'm missing?

Are you in GE Pro ? Maybe that's the difference. I sent Just A. a small file and just tried it here too. got the import wizard from the pulldown.
I will try the file when I get back off the road and see if that might be an alternative.

Andy, yes I'm using Pro, checked on line everything indicates it should work.
A unsophisticated cheap way that I use is to set it up in Quikbooks in the client data base, It works well for me a one man show since we use Quikbooks for invoices and bookkeeping already

In the file pull down, do you have "import" If you have that, you should get a window that opens to allow you a choice of about 30 file types to drop in. curious.
Andy,
I get the list and chose Generic Text (*txt *csv) and use a file exported from Access to xls then to csv and it goes to do you want to use a style sheet, but when I pick a plain text file i made from scratch I get the import box?

hmmm... maybe send me a chunk of the file so I can see what you are importing??
There is something in the header that google doesn't like, I deleted the header line and it works.
Here a file with header line.

hmmm.. maybe there are too many entities? did the data georeference by address?
I dont see any street numbers in your "location" column. That and zip codes might help when processing.
Andy,
I think I figured it out if GE sees 'lat' 'long' in header it assumes there is data in those fields and doesn't ask just assumes, when I deleted those columns it worked, it didn't like two entry's but it got others close see attached.

getting there! but how did it know where to put them without street addresses??
The location column had at least one street name some two so it "guessed" on the ones that didn't have a street number, the data base needs some attention, I have someone who needs something to do so I'm going to let them go back and clean up location field.
Anyone tried to do this with lat/long only? When we do this GE ignores that we have more than 4 digits past the decimal. For example it reduces the Lat/long from 32.123456 to 32.1234. Which obviously doesn't put the pin where we need it.

have you tried the different settings from decimal degrees to DMS?
I just put two points in using DMS and changed the hundredths decimal point by .01 and it came up to less than 1.5' difference on the ground. Your results may vary.
Thanks will try that tomorrow
I've been working on modernizing a DB for a non-profit organization which started using MS Access in 1992 for their membership records. They've gone from about 300 members or so in '92 to around 4,000 today, and have numerous kludged add-ons with respect to data entry and the current result is NOT pretty. There are a significant number of data entry pitfalls and the data itself has a large number of known errors.
What I'm trying to say, is- giving considerable forethought as to how you store the data now, will pay handsomely in the long run in the form of minimal entry errors and easy expandability should you need to add data fields. Also- if you take this step and your business expands substantially to where you outgrow MS Access- it should help minimize the pain should you need to export your data to a more powerful database. I say this because the NPO's database I'm modernizing failed to do so and it was a serious headache to "normalize" the data and export/import. At this point in time, however, that might be too much to think about... but maybe not...
For the record, I'm switching the NPO over to a PostgreSQL DB engine with LibreOffice Base for a front end. As I like to tell them, they get to keep their Briggs & Stratton lawn mower interface while the engine underneath the hood is a Rolls-Royce Merlin V-12 running on nitromethane and hydrazine. Open source FTW!!!
Just my pair of Lincoln coins.
The only superior evidence is that which you haven't yet found.
I hate to bring this post back from the dead but I have been looking for a solid solution for years and I'm ready to get it going. I have tried so many different systems and tried to build my own. My head is going to explode from trying to learn how to create different databases and apps to search them.
The whole system needs to be error proof. Some of the employees entering the data could easily have a typo in the property address and then we would never find it again.
Currently, I am using Google Sheets as a database. I am using JotForms (because it has an integration with SmartyStreets for autocomplete and address verification.
?ÿ
To the OP: What did you eventually settle on?
Has anyone had someone build a database solution for them?
Is Kudurru Stone?ÿstill active? I can't seem to get in to try it out.
