Its crunch time and i need to make a decision about how i go about doing GNSS work. For those like me with small budgets for this stuff I was wondering what some of you are doing to comply with the new FCC regs. I use the Hiper Pro which has radio and receiver built in the head. What sort of options are there so I can do my surveys without loss of performance by switching to the "narrow bands"

Thanks for you suggestions

not familiar with the Hipers, but do a "search" here for Narrowbanding and you'll see quite a few posts about it this year. we traded in our HPB450 35w radios, bought 2 new ADL 35w radios, and got our receivers set up for the new radios. Our FCC license had already been updated to Narrowband compliance. there really isn't a "cheap" way to be compliant. I'd love to use a network solution, but our state isn't fully covered, so we'd still need our base/rover set up more often than not.

The Hiper Pro's used a Satel radio. I checked with Satel earlier this year and while they told me the board could be modified to be narrowband compliant, the boards would have to go back to the factory in Finland for the modification to be done. Your only real options would be to swap out the radio boards for digital uhf radios that are already narrowband compliant.

I have Hiper Pros as well. Iowa Transit (Rob Welch) says he can change the settings to make them narrow band compliant. The procedure he described sounds something like this:
ftp://ftp.hayeshelp.com/TechDocs/SetupSatel.pdf

He also said one of the two setup options that would be compliant would potentially decrease the range of our units. He (actually probably Joe I bet) wouldn't know which option was viable until he had it in the shop. I suppose there's a couple different models of satel radios in these, but I don't know.

I was thinking about trying to do it myself but I really can't afford the down time. Rob also indicated that I need to get an FCC license. There's been quite a bit of discussion about license options on this board.

We finished our hardware transition today (already had our FCC license modified 6 months ago) with our new trimble radio. It went as smoothly as expected.
