Walked into the Se corner of Section 3, T14N R23W today - to get a position- I have a tract that has a line that is supposed to be bounded by the east line of section 3- 1/4 corner falls in the Clark Fork. There are corner recs from 1975 and 1986- the stone was still set at those times - We walked along a fence and cow trail ( was thankful for cows today....the trail was pretty steep, but not too brushy) the stone had been dislodged by fencers. We reset it and raised a significantly bigger mound....

Here's the final mound and one of the original BT's - dead and burnt....

FWIW- we were on a pretty steep north slope and couldn't get initialized for RTK... so I went fast static for 2 20 minute sessions.... I'd thought this might be a problem, so I'd set out 2 bases to begin with. Should be fine....

I'm surprised you didn't double check with Kent first. If he were here, I'm sure he would poohpooh at least part of what you did.

Oh yeah, RF's corner is chock-full of Kent's no-nos . The most glaring, of course, is that it falls within an area originally surveyed as part of the PLSS. And I'm sure the 'scatter pattern' of ANY stone monument remains can only be deciphered properly by someone that has intimate survey experience in downtown Austin. Kent would also probably save his ostracizing of the "you really don't know what you're doing with RTK" procedures for an entire exhaustive post by itself.

Where is he when we need him most?

(C'mon Kent, I KNOW you're out there....)

This is so indicative of the influence Kent has had over the years. He isn't present, and we are utilizing "Kent-isms" for our own purposes.:-P
