Many surveyors including myself playfully enjoy pointing to the fact that three of the people on the Mount Rushmore monument were land surveyors.
Each of these three guys used surveying as a stepping stone in their life, they did not do it their whole entire life, they went on to accomplish different things.
So where do you stand on this issue, is surveying it for you or is there something additional to accomplish?
I'm proud to be a surveyor. we are in a noble profession, with a rich history. Might be why P&R gets so many posts here.
Great question. I too enjoy the fact that so many of the men who shaped our country were involved with surveying.
I have also thought this to myself many times.
Especially when it seems that almost every elder gentlemen that passes by while I am traversing says, "I used to do surveying, those transits are sure a lot fancier, I pulled chain...."
I am 27 years old and I have been surveying full-time (mostly) for 9 years, since I graduated high school. I had worked on small jobs and been around it most of my life, as my father was a surveyor. He hired me working for him at the company that I continue to work at today.
Unfortunately my dad had an untimely death in 2005 when he and my sister were killed in a Harley accident on Highway 18. When a driver crossed the center line.
VERY Tragic for me.
Tomorrow I am taking the NCEES PLS Exam and WA state exam. I know regardless of the outcome my father and sister will be very proud of me. I have come a LONG way since then.
Anyways, I kinda went off topic but you just got me thinking. I wonder if this is it for me. If so, I hope to do the greatest things possible with surveying.
Thanks, Kelly.
Who was your dad? I was working in that area about the same time. I moved to Kansas last year for better job market, and a great women.
Since the average age of a Land Surveyor in the US is 59, it most likely is.....
I'm too honest to be a politician.
Kelly
I guarantee you that they are both very proud of you, smilin down on you.

It is also 3 Masons and some other guy. The two groups have two of the faces in common.

Best of luck to you Kelly.
Jason's Dad.
Teddy broke out the survey gear on "The River of Doubt" in 1914. So yes, surveyors all.
