Yea Joe, the whole remonumentation program was, and maybe still is, a big boost for many firms and individual surveyors. I never really got too involved with it though when working there. Real big on local croonyism and surveyors just rubber stamping whatever they hung their hat on for years prior. So in that regard, good for surveyors. Great idea. Bad administration.
Then the state started funneling money from it into the general funds, wherein it landed in the hands of such projects as welfare, CPS, law enforcement and other unrelated areas.
It is one of those things that John Q Publix never realizes was a good thing, so they transfer money from it to balance books elsewhere. I think the big ole' chubby ex Gov Engler was the first to do so, then ole' nitwit ex Gov Jenny the Commie really bolixed it up

Sorry to hear that Joe. I just never liked the politics of it. And I figured that the $300/corner just seemed more like a well paid interesting hobby than a money making venture.
But it may be a comfort to you to know that you can also lose money in sunny AZ just as easily, but not get frostbit in the process...:-P
